We had a fun-filled day at the library in Florence. We were asked to show the children some of our hens, bunnies and sheep, and it was a magical experience for all 💚

Penelope is staying with us for a while. She is a sweetheart whose family had to move and will need to find a new house before they can take her back. In the mean time, she is with us and we are loving how sweet she is!

Today would have been his 6th birthday, please send your thoughts to Picard’s human mom who wrote this lovely eulogy: “Picard was born to a family he loved, who loved him, but being male, he would not be allowed to remain with them. He gained a human mother who helped his mother feed him, and when the time came for him to be separated from his sheep family found other places for him to live, and remained the only constant in his life until his death at the age of 5 from an undiagnosed illness.
He was a sweet, funny, gentle, friendly little guy who didn’t like to share food except with his ewe friends, especially Clover, Chloe, and Amber. He loved blueberries, greens, grape and cherry tomatoes (but not regular ones), but most of all blackberries. He was fascinated with pigs and ducks, and one of his best friends was an elderly llama.
Picard was a deeply beloved pet who was not allowed to live with his human mother due to local zoning and general ignorance of who and what these animals are, and are not.
A beautiful innocent whose trials and suffering should make everyone question the word humanity.” 🤍

Sad news to share… Bernadette was the mother of Bella and Beethoven (pictured with her). Bernadette came from a little goat farm that had goats for their milk. At 1 year old, Bernadette had two babies (goats are not adults until 2 years old). At the farm, she was whining all the time because she was in a space so small, and they did not give grain like many producing farms. So we rescued Bernadette and her babies when she was 1 year 3 months and the babies were 3 months. She was always fragile since she had babies too young and was bullied because she was weak. The other day she had a stroke and passed away around 8 years old. She was a good mother, she took good care of her babies and has beautiful children. We share this to highlight the consequences of dairy farms and will always remember sweet Bernadette.

Meet Peanut. His owner got sick and was being fed by friends. He was living with dogs and chickens and has not socialized with other animals much so this is an adjustment for him. He is 11, and a Sable goat (maybe mix) 😊

We are going to need to build a new space for the bullied, injured and outside birds and we could really use your help! We have two new birds, a rooster that came to us from Amherst (you cannot have roosters there) and a hen that was bullied and attacked. She was living inside to recover and after could not be reintroduced. The purple is a spray to help with her wound. Please support us in fundraising for a new coop 💚

New dove family! They were living with a woman who is now in the hospital so we have 3 new ring neck doves. A mother, father and daughter. Can you see the ring pattern on their necks?

Roosters again
We forgot these 2 little bantams that are gorgeous, the right one dark purple is a breed from Indonesia, we had named him Tanatos, the other one not sure about the breed but doesn't have a name yet.
Both of them were bullied before in another space with other roosters so they ended up together in a new space and are now best friend, they sleep against each othet.
Makes me very happy!

Meet “Baby,” but we want to figure out a new name for him. He is a Silver pheasant, young. He was at a house where the other pheasant bullied him so that’s why they had to give him away. How beautiful!

This was Tommy sleeping a few weeks ago, you can see his little head curled up. With sadness in our hearts, we have been mourning the passing of our beloved turkey, Tommy. ❤️ Tommy came to us around 6 years ago. Tommy’s mom was at a breeder and escaped and went with a wild turkey. She had an egg, and Tommy was born! He was too difficult for the breeder, so they gave him to us, and he was 1-2 years at that time. Recently, he was molting (molting is the shed of old feathers to make way for new feathers..a bird must molt each year to get rid of old or damaged feathers) so he got very cold and he got pneumonia. Even with antibiotics he died on Thanksgiving night, which is sadly ironic if you think about. He was very sweet, Patrick really loved him.

Chouquette is a very special cockatiel we have for 19 years. Not only he is one of the sweetest and loving bird but he loves babies! Since we had him he get excited by a baby ,could be a sparrow, baby chick or a bunny its the same he sings to them. This time he was in the room close to a lamb we kept for some days, here is the result: ENJOY!
