Furst Steps lost a cherished member of our furry family today. Our Manager Bridget was owned by a spunky little black Chihuahua mix named Carver, who she adopted about 4 years ago when he was around the age of 5. Bridget did everything and more for him, but unfortunately Carver was put to rest today due to long time health complications with his heart. Our thoughts and all the love are with Bridget today.
As someone who has worked in the pet industry for over 15 years, finding good chemistry between human and dog isn’t always so obvious (and not so easy to come by). Carver and Bridget were meant to be, meant to find each other.
Carver had an adventurous and outgoing spirit, which matched Bridget’s love for travel and outdoor activities. He was always ready to spring into action for any walk, hike or trip that came his way. Bridget worked so very hard on socializing and training him to be the perfect companion, and he was a wonderful assistant for her dog walking business.
Carver was a pickier eater, but had his favorites like roast beef, freeze dried shrimp, cheese and whipped cream. He loved to “sing” and had the cutest howl. It didn’t take much to get him to start howling but we loved hearing it. He was always dressed like the fine gentleman he was, in shirts, or hoodies, themed to a holiday or movie because he got cold easily. Bridget always made sure he had a shirt and blanket to get comfy on wherever he was. He had a ton of nicknames, like Corbin or Corville Redenbacher, and would answer to them like it was his real name. Carver loved coming to work at Furst Steps, and would run across the room at top speed to say good morning to whoever was there to greet him. He was always SO happy. Although Carver loved all humans, he was more selective with his four-legged friends. Due to Bridget’s patience and understanding of her dog, Carver grew to love many more tiny friends at daycare, and spent his last year bonding and growing friendships. But his best friend in the world was my little Chihuahua mix, Mo. Carver & Mo’s relationship started when Bridget and I worked together at our last job. They were both “office dogs” and spent many mornings in the reception area snuggled up together or romping around playing with each other. It brought Bridget and I so much joy seeing the two of them interact and become best friends over these last 4 years, just like she and I have done. I’m not so sure what Mo is going to do without his buddy, but I do know that those memories will never be forgotten.
There’s so many things I could continue to say about the incredible relationship between Bridget and Carver but I’m a sobbing mess and I’m surprised I was able to get this much out. Bridget, we all love you and we’re so sorry.
Carver, you beautiful little creature, I’m going to miss you so much. Find Millie when you get there, she’s got your back. Love you, Cardboard. 💔
Love always,
Alex
