Red Barn Riding Company had a successful show day at HOI Fun Show yesterday with our client LeighAnn and lesson horse Batman bringing home several ribbons and prizes! They placed 1st in 12& Under Walk/Whoa, 1st in 13 & Under Walk/Trot, 2nd in Youth Trail, 3rd in Youth Halter and 4th in 13&Under Showmanship. Great job you guys! We are so proud of you!

A friend of mine once told me you should always have a palomino in the barn because they bring good luck. So, welcome Dreamer to our program! Dreamer is a 13 year old grade quarter horse gelding, used as a trail/pleasure horse in his previous life. He is pretty as a picture, and can’t wait to meet all of you! He is our new confident beginner horse. Dreamer is very slow, gentle, and sweet. Not much phases him! He also loves to be brushed and spoiled, and as soon as you get your camera out, he is all about posing. He knows how gorgeous he is! We are very excited to have him on board!
For most people, this picture isn’t very exciting, and is frankly, a little strange… but for us, it means a NEW HORSE has just been dropped off and added to our program!

Looking at adding TRAIL RIDES as a potential service we provide, but wanted to hear from you first!!
Rides would be lead by our trail guide, last 1 hour long and would be located here on property. You’d be riding through fields, woods, small creeks and around a cute little pond. You may even catch a glimpse of some local wildlife! 🦌 And, as a reminder, we are located in Heyworth, only 20 minutes south of Bloomington…

Thank your lesson horse
In this industry, we all too often see the average lesson horse viewed as lesser than or below other horses. Yet, they have the hardest job of any horse.
They do not complain when an unbalanced first time rider mounts for their lesson. They are a calming force for the most timid of riders, promising safety and security. They are patient and kind, allowing riders to grow and evolve in a safe space without fear of making mistakes.
They take the brunt of your “bad day” emotions, without complaint, even though the negative emotions should not be taken out on them in the first place. They would have every right to not perform or act out, yet they are gracious enough to be a shoulder to cry on.
They have the remarkable ability to sense your insecurities and needs, and provide you with the exact ride you need for the day. To teach the lessons you need in that moment, lessons you didn’t even know you needed to learn.
Even on the frustrating days, “when the lesson horse isn’t listening,” they don’t take your accusations to heart. They continue on with their masterful plans to instill humility, critical thinking, and grace in their partner - and you will finally understand that they’re always listening, and they’re always right.
And when you finally graduate to your own fancier horse, take a moment to think of all the lesson horses who brought you to this milestone. They gave you the knowledge, ability, and skill to be where you are right now. And they gave you their heart and soul in the process.
So next time you see a lesson horse, thank them. Give them a pat and a peppermint, a warm hug, and a promise to treat them with respect - for they are the backbone of this industry, and the foundation for all future equestrians.

Did you catch us in the Heyworth Christmas Parade yesterday? Merry (early) Christmas from Batman and friends!
Batman is a 16 year old Quarter/Thoroughbred cross gelding. He is a big goofball. That puppy that follows you around all day begging for treats and love? That’s this guy. He loves kisses, snuggles, and would stand for being brushed all day long. He does have more energy than Grandpa Porkie, so will be reserved for riders that have ridden before. Something cool about Batman is that he changes colors throughout the year! 🦇
Porkchop “Porkie” is a 21 year old AQHA registered quarter horse gelding. He is about as wide as he is tall! He is missing an eye now, but that doesn’t bother him! Have a grandfather whose life motto is “Just let me eat, sleep, and not work too hard?” That’s this guy in horse form. That being said, he loves his kiddos and has endless amounts of patience for them. Have a kid who’s unsure of this whole thing? You can count on him to take care of them. He is the goodest of good boys! 🐷

Dreamer did great with his youngest lesson kid ever! Trust me when I say if I don’t trust them with my own kids, I won’t trust them with yours. Both boys did absolutely amazing, and Dreamer had the most gentle little walk for him!
When I told 7 yo LeighAnn we got a new horse for her to try, her first question was, “Is he a trick horse??” Much to the mini daredevil’s dismay, Dreamer is not a trick horse. But, he did a great job being ridden like a regular horse for his first mini lesson with her this weekend! #yellowhorse #palomino
