Like this page to watch its transformation into the new office building for CornerStone United. CornerStone United is happy to announce the purchase of a new office in Hickory, NC. The building is commonly known as the Piedmont Wagon Warehouse and located just outside of downtown Hickory. Piedmont Wagon Company was the first major industry to settle in Hickory and helped build the city. They owned
13 acres of buildings producing horse drawn wagons, furniture and after the introduction of the automobile, the bodies for the Woody station wagons. The building was constructed in the 1890's and Piedmont Wagon Company operated until the 1950's. A fire destroyed all of the buildings in the late 50's except the existing warehouse. The warehouse consists of four floors each just over 10,000 square feet. Over the last 40 years, the windows have been removed and bricked over, the rail dock demolished and the interior has suffered decay. Our plan is to restore the "walk-out" portion of the basement along with the first and second floors. This will give us approximately 25,000 sf of office space - over twice our current location. The windows and rail dock will be re-installed back to their original condition. The building is on the National Historic Register, so we are working with the Historic Society on the rehabilitation plans. The project is scheduled to begin first quarter 2014 and be completed by December 2014. This is an exciting step for CornerStone!
