PLEASE HELP if you can…even $1 helps!!
The birds are hungry! They are eating so much extra since it’s winter time. They eat more to stay warm. It’s been so cold, day and night! Poor babies.
We’ve been rescuing pigeons since before 2018. Aviary was done in summer of 2019. We have around 240 pigeons now. We go through over 100 lbs of feed a week. Like everything else, prices went up sky high!
When we rescue a new pigeon, we don’t ask for anything to take them in. But they are a lifelong commitment. They can live from 20-30 years! That’s a lot of money and time we put into these babies for years. We barely ask for help, but we really need it now.

This little girl, Percy, came to us on September 1st from Jaimee Tuttle, a wildlife rehabber. Poor thing was attacked by a hawk, but Jaimee fixed her all up. She said Percy had a big hole in her chest that wouldn’t stop bleeding, and thought she had an injured wing. This is a pic when Percy was first introduced into the aviary. She was on this roof checking out all the pigeons

Percy is very lucky to be alive. She is flying too👍

On August 27th, this sweet guy joined us. A nice couple rescued him from their yard. He was completely exhausted, hungry and thirsty. He didn’t even have the strength to fly any further. We were in NC at the time, so they kept him and took good care of him until we got back from visiting family. He gained strength and was able to fly again. The couple drove him the whole way here from Carlisle, so that he could live in our aviary.
We named him Tito, after the gentleman that saved him.

Look at this gorgeous boy we got on Saturday ❤️. He didn’t have a name. We were throwing a few names out there for him. I said “how about Channing” (for Channing mmmm Tatum). As soon as I said that, he cocked his head (so adorable I might add) and buried his beak into his crop as if he was being shy! We all started laughing and said “whoa you like that name?!” So in coversation, I mentioned the name about 3 more times and each time got the same reaction!

So let me introduce to you, yet another gorgeous Channing Tatum😂🐦🥰

I forgot to post these 2 weeks ago. Facebook wasn’t working and then I forgot about it. Bandit (left on big pic, and then under bench) and Mystery (right and sitting in fireplace) have decided to become best friends. At first, Mystery would just chase Bandit everywhere and Bandit had no interest in becoming friends. Within and hour, they were inseparable 🥰. They begged mommy and daddy to have a sleep over, where they got nice and cozy. So guess what? Of course, we gave in!!! Hahahaha. That’s where they slept all night. Is that adorable or what?!

The first pigeon, Mystique, we got from the vet has come a long way😊. First of all, we have to change the name because it’s a boy! He has gotten so strong and loving his new jungle gym in his cage. He comes out and gets to have full roam of the house. But the best thing…he loves him mom (or should I say my hand 😂).

He came from huddling in the corner the first couple days here to playing with mama on his jungle gym ❤️

Thank you to John Kolesar III for taking this baby to Cambria Vet to get treated. Then I picked her up a little bit ago.
She has a broken wing at the shoulder joint. She probably won’t be able to fly, but can live in the aviary with our other disabled pigeons❤️. They love it in there. We are Dr. Venas go to rescue🥰

I got a call from the avian vet that I use and she said someone dropped this sweet baby off to them, because she couldn’t fly. She said no broken bones, which is good! Then she asked if I would be willing to take her. Well, here’s our newest addition Mystique❤️.

She’s a feral, so it’s taking a long time for her to get used to us. I felt so bad, the first couple of days she just huddled in the corner, terrified. Then I gave her a little hut and she wouldn’t come out. Finally, she is starting to get used to me, and she’s starting to feel much better. I get beat up every time I clean her cage, give her food or water. That’s a great sign that she is protecting what is hers❤️

I’m so sorry I haven’t posted in a while. It’s been a really rough couple of months! My husband is still trying to find work comparable to what he was doing before. He hasn’t worked since June (that’s a LONG story) and receiving no pay. I found out I have to go for surgery in January.

If you are able to…Please keep the pigeons on your list for CHRISTMAS!
They go through pigeon feed like crazy!
For treats They love sunflower hearts, safflower seeds, peanut chunks, organic popcorn (unpopped), to name the most used.

This sweetie right here is the one that started us loving pigeons❤️🐦. BB is no longer with us, and we still miss him and have rough days without him, but he showed us the sweet souls and personalities that these birds have. Over 90 birds have him to thank for living in their pidgie paradise for the rest of their lives

16 new rescues yesterday! They discovered the pond and absolutely loved it. This is always one of our favorite things to watch. They jump in over and over again!! We already named a couple of them…BRAVEHEART, MAGGIE MAY, STEWART, REX, FEATHERS, and SEVEN! But need 10 more names!

Let’s hear some names you guys like! We may have it already with 90 birds, but give us some ideas😊.

This is Coaster Rene’. She was rescued in September of 2019. I got a message from some amazing rescuers at Knoebels Amusement Park in Elysburg, PA. She apparently was a champion racer, and was exhausted and needed a rest, but picked the wrong place to rest—on a roller coaster track. The roller coaster came too fast and got her😢. The ride operator saw it happen and see this little lady fall to the ground! The guy was awesome enough to shut the ride down and go rescue her❤️

All of the employees there were amazing and took such great care of her until I got up there to pick her up. She was in really bad shape😢. Her left wing was nearly ripped off. Just a small piece of tendon and skin held it on. I was worried she wasn’t going to make it. I put her on antibiotics and pain meds right away and she had incredible will to survive! It was a long journey, and she never regained use of her wing, but she is one of the happiest birds EVER! She was soon able to go in the aviary!

I swear she has 9 lives, because soon after we put her in the aviary, I went out the one day and she was floating in the pond—she looked dead😰. Apparently she went in to bath and didn’t have the strength to get out. She floated and WAITED until I came to save her!!!😢. She was COLD and STIFF. All that was moving was her eyes!! I picked her up, thinking “after all I did to save you, this can’t happen!!!” I dried her and wrapped her in warm blankets and sat in the blazing sun for hours just cuddling her and talking to her, encouraging her. Finally, she started moving her head to look up at me, then I felt her body getting fidgety! This little girl was ready to go again!!

She is such a remarkable girl🐦. And she makes our day every day! When we go out to give treats, she runs around and flaps her wings with so much excitement!

She is happily married for the 2nd time! She left her 1st husband and married a second!! Little brat! lol. But as you can see in the pic, she has ramps in the aviary so that she can go anywhere. She’s the reason our aviary is handicapped accessible. The funny thing is ALL of the birds LOVE the ramps! Instead of flying up to the coops, they use the ramps! But no one masters them as well as Coaster Rene’

More shower pics! We sat in the aviary for over an hour. It was thundering and lightning at the same time and anyone that knows me, knows that I’m terrified of lightning! We were sitting in a metal frame aviary 😱. I tried talking the birds to get off the the metal perches….they didn’t listen to mama😂😂😂.

Treat time❤️🐦❤️. These babies are so spoiled. Once daily, they know they get their favorite treats. They go crazy! Sometimes they even hop over each other. They love chopped peanuts, sunflower hearts, safflower seeds, oatmeal, and some cereals mama chops up. Are they adorable or what??

😢😢🐦😢😢We had a very sad day yesterday. I took DeeDee to the vet. Her leg and foot have just been getting worse by the day. Also she lost part of her lower beak and her upper beak was growing at rapid speed, making it nearly impossible for her to eat, unless I fed her from a bowl where she could kind of just force it into her mouth. Her feathers were showing signs of stress. The vet feels she may have been born with some form of systemic disease and felt she was suffering. We tried everything we could to help this baby❤️. We grew way too attached to her for the short time we had her.
You’re suffering is over DeeDee. FLY HIGH BABY GIRL!! We will miss you! 😢. Tell BB we miss him sooo much. And now you both can fly together! (DeeDee was named after BB, who we lost right before we rescued her, now they’re both gone😭😭)

Remember the “oopsie” baby I posted earlier? We named it Pinky. Pinky is asking mama “is it safe to come out mama?” You can see Daddy in the background laying on feggs. I swapped the one egg as soon as she laid it. They aren’t sneaking another baby in on me!😂
