Our current Taste Tester microgreen is Kohlrabi.

Kohlrabi microgreens have a unique flavor profile that can be described as a combination of several different tastes.

You will notice a subtle sweetness, similar to that of a turnip or broccoli. This sweetness is not overpowering, but rather adds a pleasant hint of flavor to your dishes.

Being a member of the brassica family, kohlrabi shares some similarities in taste with other cole crops such as radishes and cabbages. However, the flavor of kohlrabi microgreens is not as pungent or peppery as radishes. Instead, it offers a milder and more delicate taste.

I always say that "purple is precious." Why? Because it occurs rarely in nature, and people miss this part of the rainbow in their daily diet more than any other color. According to my color-coded system in my Whole Detox book, purple foods track the functional signature of brain health, which includes cognition, mood, memory, and learning.

Therefore, when we see the option to choose purple varieties of common foods in different colors, it would be great to choose them if possible. They tend to be seasonal, so you have to watch for when they are in the stores or in farmers' markets. Purple potatoes tend to be more available for (typically) comparable cost to yellow or red potatoes. Purple potatoes tend to have lower glycemic impact and are more 'metabolically friendly' than the other colors of potatoes. In my opinion, they also taste better!

If you find purple foods more expensive, note that you are getting more in nutrient density. For example, in the purple variety of a carrot, not only are you getting the purple pigments that correlate to the anthocyanins, but also 2.2 and 2.3 times more alpha- and beta-carotenes than orange carrots. So, it's like added nutrition without even having to 'think' about it...

Thank you, all, who stopped by to taste HEYDAY GREENS microgreens and learn about them while at the Bash on the Bluff Fall Festival 2024! It was great to see the current fans and meet new ones!

Especially I loved seeing young students interested in growing the greens and getting grow kits to grow them at home. I hope it turns into a lifetime love of growing fresh food and eating healthy.
