Everyone meet Dora. She is a foreign exchange student from Hungary. Her dream is to become a veterinarian. What a better way to help her dreams come true than having her shadow our very own Dr. Buffy! Dora had an amazing two days with our staff and was able to be hands on with some of our patients. It was an honor to host Dora and we are sure going to miss her. The future is bright for her and we cannot wait to see her journey.

We are thrilled to announce we are expanding our team!!! We are looking for self-motivated individuals whom are ready to be part of a very active veterinary practice. We are currently looking to fill two positions. Experience is preferred, but not required as we provide on the job training. We offer benefits such as paid holidays, personal time off, medical/dental insurance, 401k, etc.

Open positions & job details:

Customer Service Representative- Professionally assists clients with ease by providing clear, direct communication about services and products offered. Handles all incoming and outgoing clientele. Charts appropriate details regarding appointments and be able to multi task. Answers multiple phone calls with ease.

Kennel Assistant- Entry level position. Duties include assisting veterinarians with surgeries and examinations. Cleaning cages/kennels, providing care for the animals, along with other daily duties.

Grooming Receptionist-Schedule/confirm grooming appointments. Answer incoming grooming phone calls. Assist groomers in basic grooming needs.

Our Story

The Marcello family has provided the Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes with exceptional veterinary care for more than 60 years. Following in the occupational footsteps of his father, C.J. “Doc” Marcello, Dr. William Marcello attended Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine and started his own practice in Mathews in February 1982. One month later he opened a second clinic on Houma’s Grand Caillou Road.

When his son, Dr. Blake Marcello, became a licensed veterinarian, a decision was made to close the Grand Caillou location and build a new practice on the west side of Houma. The doors of the 5,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility opened October 2009. Dr. Kevin Showalter joined the practice that same year following his graduation from LSU-SVM. In February 2020 we welcomed Dr. Buffy Ackman, a graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, to our team.

Dr. Astrid Bigio-Marcello finished her Medical Oncology Residency at LSU and is currently part of the MedVet Oncology team in New Orleans. Marcello Veterinary Hospital welcomes her medical expertise.
