We're coming up on our 1 year gotcha day this month. I can honestly say this past year has been filled with so many smiles and many, many tears and countless days of uncertainty if we would ever get to this point. Its been 6 months since his last blood transfusion. ❤️

PLEASE HELP US SAVE CAPONE.

Capone (aka Poopie) is an 8 month old puppy that's had a very rough start in life, from being literally thrown from a car at just 8 weeks old to now having life threatening anemia for an unknown reason. His body is not producing new red blood cells on its own and the ones he does have are abnormal and his body is attacking them. It has caused his hematocrit levels to drop from 16 at the start of this journey (which is very low) to, at the lowest point a 6 (which was a miracle he was even alive). He has been to 4 different clinics and has been hospitalized. We have ruled out parasites (fleas & worms), and Lyme disease, treated for an auto immune disorder, Toxoplasmosis & Babesiosis, has had countless blood tests, done ultrasounds to rule out internal bleeding and look for anything out of the ordinary and haf xrays to rule out zinc toxicity, and have done 3 blood transfusions in hopes it would help his body jump start producing more red blood cells. The blood transfusions did help to raise his hematocrit levels to a 26 but after rechecking a week later they were at 23, so once again dropping. At this point our vet has exhausted every treatment he can personally do. I would love to get him into a specialist for further testing to find an answer to lead us to a solution to save his life, but specialists are financially out of reality after exceeding $5,000 in vet bills this past month alone on Capone. So I am wanting to get him into another vet to look over his case with a new set of eyes and hopefully new ideas. It definitely won't hurt. We are running out of time. PLEASE HELP US SAVE CAPONE. He is the goodest boy. ❤️

Capone is currently hospitalized. He received a blood transfusion today. The vet that is caring for him is very eager to figure this out which gives me hope. He feels comfortable there and doesn't need a muzzle which is a big improvement.
The vet did say when she looked at his blood smear under the microscope, his red blood cells are deformed. So now the goal is to figure out what causes the deformities. His hematocrit was 12 on Monday and once again was back down to 10 yesterday. My Poopie boy has not given up and I just can't either. Our house is so quiet without him. I don't like it.

The estimate yesterday was $726 and it continuesto go up every. We have about $250 in donations to go towards that. Please consider skipping your morning Starbucks and making a $5 donation. No amount is too small. Your love and generosity is helping us keep him alive. 💙

The day we found little baby Capone. He had broken teeth, a hole in his lip, cuts, scrapes and scabs and his ribs and hip bones were visible.

The blood transfusion did help to raise his hematocrit levels a bit. They were at 12 on lab results at our last visit, but our vet felt they were higher after the transfusion and they are getting lower again. At this point our vet had done every treatment he can personally do, and now he needs a specialist for further testing to find an answer to lead us to a solution to save his life. We have exhausted all of our funds trying to figure this out. Capone is not ready to give up and neither are we.
