Affinity K9 Academy is actively rebranding! We will now be known as Tug&Trust Training! This name aligns with my play/relationship based training style! I’m so excited to start serving the Houston dog community!

Affinity K9 Academy has officially moved to Houston and is now accepting private lessons in/around the Heights and Downtown areas (if you’re not in these locations, please don’t hesitate to reach out anyways! I am still working out my schedule to accommodate other locations!).

Unfortunately, there is already a business in the area that shares my company’s name. Since they were here first, I am actively working towards rebranding. I need new name suggestions! Please feel free to fill the comment section with ideas!

My favorite boy, Dior, went home from his two week board and train today! He crushed his go home lesson, and his parents are so excited to be able to take him out in public without worrying about his reactions to other dogs and people!
Bittersweet feelings today, since he is my final client dog here in Tulsa, and my last board and train for the foreseeable future.
Going forward, I will be focusing on teaching STAR Puppy, CGC, and Trick Dog classes, as well as training service dogs at Kraftyk9 Dog Sports in Houston! I’m going to be utilizing my newfound free time to start working my personal dogs in several sports, including Disc, Dock, and Parkour!
I am so excited for this new chapter of my life, although it is nerve wracking to leave behind the place I have called home for the last two years.

This balanced trainer doesn't believe all that ridiculousness. If your dog is like Arrow, and has shown reactivity towards other dogs after being attacked on leash, you may find that you make much more progress in your training if you switch tools! I find that Arrow was much more suspicious of strange dogs when he is restrained by his neck. It turns out, being attacked by other dogs while leashed to his collar soured his relationship with the collar. Over time we've been able to work back up to using his collar, but the reduction in his reactivity upon switching to his Säker harness was by far the biggest success in our training journey! This won't work for every dog, and it's not a replacement for training. Anyways, this is just your reminder that the tool doesn't train your dog, you do. Be wary of trainers who suppress reactivity instead of finding and addressing the root cause. I have board and train bookings open for May! The UK XL Bully Bans should NOT exist! But I am TIRED of seeing dogs forced to wear muzzles with no prior conditioning or training. Just because you’re upset about the new rules doesn’t mean your dog has to suffer too. EVERY DOG SHOULD BE MUZZLE TRAINED WITH AN APPROPRIATELY FITTED MUZZLE

So very proud of my girl yesterday. She was a model citizen on not one but two flights, and the San Francisco Pier 39 afterwards! The sky really is the limit for us💜

It’s important to teach your animals to coexist! Breeds like Alice, a beagle/Australian shepherd mix, are very likely to have a high prey drive. Please consult a professional trainer if your dog has a habit of being too interested in your smaller animals! Even play/excitement can turn ugly very quickly!

A short clip from our training session with Casey this week! We always like to end training on a positive note, so we packed up right after this! Casey gets very excited when he sees strange dogs, and has a tendency to bark and lunge towards them without realizing that he’s a huge dog and can be scary when he barks! He’s made huge progress and is barely pulling when he sees another dog! Occasionally, he is still barking, but that will resolve over time with consistency!
