So I announced this on my personal page but forgot to mention it here. We did a spontaneous thing a couple of weekends ago and brought home this lovely six month old girl.

Tentatively planned to be registered as Insignia’s She’s A Game Changer
“Tesla” (after Nikola Tesla, inventor)

Sire: CH Cedar Hill’s It’s Game Time (Brady)
Dam CH Empyean’s The First of Her Name (Cersei)

I am looking forward to watching her mature into all the potential I see in her now.

Malpaso Make It A Double Shalako
“Hugo” - formerly “Angry Bird” red merle pup from the Swayed x Blake cross.
5.5 months old

(The Hugo is an alcoholic aperitif, originating in South Tyrol, but widespread in Triveneto, Austria, Switzerland and Germany, based on prosecco, elderflower syrup (or lemon balm syrup), seltzer (or sparkling water) and mint leaves. Stir together over plenty of ice)

Hugo is owned by Brian Wolf.

I am occasionally asked why I don’t special Fizz in ASCA or title him in AKC.

There are several reasons:

1) Fizz has a single point in AKC, but I have been lectured more than once in the AKC ring by non-breeder judges about everything they dislike about him. I gave up financing other dogs points, sometimes vastly inferior animals.

2) Fizz broke off several incisors and although our standard does allow for broken or missing teeth, most judges will not get past his uneven, shifted snaggle-tooth bite. Side alignment is scissors and anyone may check, but seem disinclined to do so when there are easier choices that require less work to point to for breed points.

3) Fizz doesn’t care if he is specialed or has an AKC title and neither do I. I love this dog and all of his positive and lovely traits and recognize and acknowledge his weaknesses but would never discount this dog for them.

And that, folks, is why he is a perfectly happy house dog.

The Grand Poohbah of Shalako Aussies: Shalako’s Fuzzy Caterpillar “Dozer” Age 13 years and 8 months young

This was me (look at how skinny I was!) and my newly minted champion, Banshee, who was all of 14 months old. She already had two AKC Group wins under her belt. I won’t lie. I look back on her video and cringe a bit. She was so very awkward and gangly at this age.

Some history of our dogs: AKC ROM/ASCA HOF Cimarron’s Sterling Silver, CGC “Ted” was bred by Lauri Butler and eventually landed in his permanent home with Gail Karamalegos (Callisto) Ted was bred to AKC/ASCA Ch Moss Lake’s Casey At The Bat, CDX to produce the first generation of Zydeco/Shalako’s lines. (Shalako lines actually started in 1987, but we shifted gears several times after some health bumps in previous pedigrees) This is Teddy at the 1996 ASCA Nationals in Oregon. This is the same year he won the stud dog class. I still see some of Teddy’s traits coming out five generations later.
