Trixie floating in her pool. What a life!
We board Labrador Retrievers in our home. They have free run of entire house & fenced 1/4 acre yard. Boarding is cageless & carefree! Come for a tour.

No crates, no cages, no kennels. We do a lot of work for the Guide Dog Foundation, so guest dogs must have well balanced temperaments, good house manners and have no issues with other dogs. We board mostly English Labs and charge $60 a day. We'd love to meet your dog and show you how we provide a wonderful 'vacation' for your dog while you're away. Our phone will NOT accept Texts and we do not have an active website because when we did, we were overrun with requests for boarding.

Just placed another order with Jeff, at Grateful Shed, for more deer antlers. If you haven't tried them, yes...expensive, but they last forever and the dogs just chew and chew and chew. The best all-natural chew in my opinion. Try them!!!!!

Dogs love to lay on the deck and watch me work... This week's handsome guest Lab is Buddy, a service dog. We like to make each meal a bit special by topping their kibble with something. Found out Buddy does NOT like peas or tomatoes. He thinks our pups are so weird when they gobble them down.
Today is World Farm Animals Day, a day dedicated to honoring the animals that inhabit our farms. Farms and their animal residents play a crucial role in our customization training program here at the Guide Dog Foundation. We often work with clients who either live on farms, frequently visit them, or reside in areas where their new guide dog teams may encounter wild animals of similar size to farm animals.
As an integral part of our customization training, we take these clients and their new guide dogs to farms. This hands-on experience allows them to become familiar with how to effectively work with their guide dogs in a farm setting, where they interact with various farm animals, including donkeys, cows, chickens, and more. 🐷🐔🐴

Just like old times.... The dogs outnumber the residents by 3+ times. Three blacks, three yellows and a golden. Here they are watching and waiting for their dinners....and for the kitchen door to open! Mad rush, but oh so polite. I call their name, touch their head, and they know it's their dinner I'm putting on the floor for them. Everyone else backs off, waiting their turn. No one went after anyone else's food. Such good dogs!
An oldie but goodie
Labs in the kitchen, wishing for floor finds from sloppy, generous chefs.

National Dog Bite Awareness Week
Thousands of postal employees were attacked by dogs last year, but that pales in comparison to the 4.5 million Americans attacked each year. The Postal Service continues its tradition of calling attention to this public health issue.

Joe Hinton is long distance transport driver volunteer with the Guide Dog Foundation and our sister organization, America's VetDogs. At GDF & VetDogs we have many different volunteer opportunities available - there's something for everyone!
“Cpl Scherer's family told me they raised funds every year to sponsor future service dogs through America's VetDogs. To date, Team Chris has sponsored well over twenty dogs. Having learned of this wonderful partnership, I knew in my heart, both as a dog lover and veteran myself, that America's VetDogs is an amazing organization for which I would be proud to serve as a volunteer." - Joe

Joyful holidays to all!
Rotating your dog's diet can help lengthen their life. I don't necessarily switch from kibble brand to kibble brand often, but i do reduce the kibble amount and add extras. They might include canned green beans (or fresh), yams, leftover chicken, broccoli (careful, can create gas), cottage cheese, yogurt, broth, salad greens, zucchini, cukes, apples, (no citrus, no grapes or raisins), bananas, carrots.... If at first a dog thumbs his nose at fruit and veggies, i water down a bit of canned dog food and drizzle it over the food like a gravy. Only the pickiest, will pick out what they don't like and leave it on the floor for you, but eventuallly they usually change their mind.
Diet rotation can be a safer way to feed your dog. Here are The Dog Food Advisor's best advice for using this important feeding method.

Arne took a few photos when he fed the dogs this morning. All so well behaved and polite, never going after another dog's food and waiting patiently till every dog finished before getting their carrot for dessert.
Dogs' idea of a three-way.
One of our wonderful boarders, Sue, with Santa. Wonder what she asked Santa for.....

My name is Lanse - my two sisters, AuClaire, Tickles and I were given up by a family that just had too many dogs. She was trying to sell us - but was not having much luck. She doesn't have any papers for us - so we don't know if we are all lab - even though she says so. These great folks at NYSRR came and got us - we are now in Louisiana but should be coming to New York real soon!

Bobby wanted to see if Sue, their recently adopted Lab, would recognize and be happy to see him after their eleven-day trip to Italy. If there was any doubt that "love is in the air" and she had totally bonded with him and his family, this is proof! What joy! My eyes were tearing up just witnessing it.
Guessing this is a golden. So typical!

I feel like an ad for FreshPet, but dogs are highly recommending it. Found it in a separate fridge at Costco, $21 and change for 6 lbs, 20 cups worth of food. Opened the bag and all the dogs came running! It smelled great! I have two fussy eaters here and both loved it!
Our retired guide dog, Jackee, just turned 15! Adopted her when she was 11 years old, released from working due to seizures. Never thought we'd be so blessed as to have her this many years. Reduced pills from 2 a day to 3 a week. Hasn't had a seizure in almost ten months. You go girl!
The "sniff" squad out doing their job. Sue and Molly. Then Coco and Talya join in.
Gosh, you look so familiar.... Zoe and Coco, mirror images.

Just like old times. Seven dogs. Our guys--Crane and Jackee (snoozing inside)-- two delightful dogs from the Guide Dog Foundation--plus two regular boarders: Charley and Zuzu....and a last-minute surprise boarder, Riley. Help! I'm overrun with yellow Labs!
Today is . At America's VetDogs we have a PTSD Service Dog training program for Veterans and First Responders in need. The pictured task, "Rest", is one of the skills the dogs learn to help alleviate the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Our dogs also learn nightmare interruption, and other skills to aid their handler. To read more about our PTSD program please visit VetDogs.org today.

For Eric....an old tour video, but you'll get an idea of our dog-friendly environment.
Two dogs from the Guide Dog Foundation, here for a short stay.
Feeding frenzy. Koba uses a 'big boy bowl' and eats with the other dogs. Koba is young, so he is separated from the others because he doesn't yet know how to "respect" other dog's food. Don't want him to barge in on another dog eating and possibly get bit.
Last evening Henri's "fan club" came over for coffee. I am so sorry I didn't think to take photos. Susan and Lou had met Henri over the winter one time and fell in love with him. When they held he was here again, they came for a visit and we all had a delightful evening. Today our friend Anne brought her dogs and two guests over to for a playdate. Again, everyone had a great time. And again, where was the camera! Ugh.
Breakfast! 5:50 am. A little restlessness when we went to bed, but they all settled within 5 minutes and slept straight thru till 5am. They all slept in the bedroom with us, except for Toby who was in Arne's office. Koba jumped on the bed once, early morning, but got off when we asked. After breakfast there was an hour plus of 'crazy time play' but now things have calmed down.
