Leonhard Seppala, a celebrated Norwegian musher, stands proudly with his legendary lead dog, Togo—an unsung hero of the 1925 Serum Run to Nome, Alaska. Faced with a deadly diphtheria outbreak that threatened the isolated town, teams of sled dogs relayed lifesaving antitoxin across 674 miles of unforgiving wilderness.

While Balto became famous for leading the final 55-mile stretch, it was Togo who carried Seppala through the longest and most grueling leg of the journey—an astonishing 261 miles through blizzard conditions, subzero temperatures, and treacherous ice.
