Dog park is closed today June 15th.
On June 15, contractors are onsite at the Hurst Dog Park to perform preventative landscape maintenance to mitigate the spread of Sudden Oak Death or Phytophthora ramorum. Phytophthora species are related to algae, and most species are soil-swelling root pathogens. It spreads naturally in water and through the root systems of trees. The best way to prevent spread is to create a barrier between infected and non-infected areas and remove infected trees once diagnosed. This spring, Parks staff, and a certified arborist identified and removed three infected trees that were beyond saving. As part of the next phase of the plan, the City’s arborist will apply a preventative treatment to the entire dog park area on June 15. The Dog Park is closed this day and will reopen on June 16 at its regularly scheduled time. Please call 817.788.7222 with any questions or concerns.
