Ever heard of Craniosacral therapy for horses? I’ve now added this to my equine bodywork practice along with Kinesiology taping. Here’s a little insight to what Craniosacral therapy is:
Craniosacral therapy is a very safe and gentle manual therapy that works on the central nervous system and the connective tissue called “fascia.” The light touch technique is used to help stimulate the body’s own healing properties along with lessening the restrictions found in the nervous system. It works primarily on the central and autonomic nervous systems, and has been proven to help calm and rebalance these systems, especially in the horse.
TONY here is a 7 year old gelding that TeJay Lee Fenster uses around the ranch and has been using to pickup on. He’s always been a little difficult when it comes to his head, mainly his right ear and the right side of his atlas. He also has some scarring on his tongue from previous accident. Here I had him relaxed enough and he had so many releases, kind of hard to see, I was able to do an ear hold on both ears to release tension along with his TMJ joint. He relaxed so much compared to his normal self. Doing this before his massage and realignment session made him more enjoyable to work on.

Check out day one with this 3 yr old filly! I did the fun part of catching her and TeJay had the fun part of refreshing her groundwork. She’s super smart and is gonna be easy. Stay tuned to see progress!

Ignore our hay covered pen, how you keep the sand from blowing here in the Sandhills. Anyhow, here’s an old school technique my grandpa taught me several years ago when you’ve got a colt or even an older horse that gets a little hard in the face or rib cage even. Tie their head around to their tail. Normally you’d use a nice plain O ring tied in the tail and you bend them around to where there’s just a small amount of tension across the rein. I like to use this snaffle bit sidepull combo for this or even on colts that like to put their tongue over the bit. It gives you two different types of pull from two different places. This technique lets them pull on themselves and figure out how to give to their own form of pressure. This filly has figured it out pretty quick. Just something they can do while you’re doing chores or working on another colt. It comes in handy and you’ll see a difference! -Michaella

Miss Brumby
Sometimes you have to go back to the drawing board and break it back down to work back up. She’s become a little hard in the face both directions, more so to the left than right, so we decided to change things up a little bit.
Little update on the next hopeful, Miss Brumby as we call her. Once we get her softened back up and worked through her temper that she acquires every once in a while she’s gonna be a joy!
