I met this kid for the first time at Bullie Que he's something guys so sweet so appreciative for a bed and a bowl of food... and lemme tell you what you will get in return is not measurable. I want him so bad. I just wanna make sure the rest of his life is just as good as it is with his foster mom and dad. So if you are truly following me because you truly wanna rescue.. he's the one.
Former outdoor boy Sobek the sweetheart is ready for his forever home and excited to live inside the house with his forever family.

Do you have a cushy orthopedic bed, lots of wild weenies and, ideally, a one-story house to make it easy for this vision limited guy to get around? Would you like to show Sobek that life can be good, and get to live with an absolute sweetheart of a dog? Then this may be the guy for you! Sobek came to us as a stray, and his issues show he was not used to an easy life. But we've attended to what we could, and while he has limited vision and an arthritic elbow, he's doing so much better and, best of all, is starting to realize that humans will take care of him and life is good! He loves bully sticks and a good couch cuddle, as well as a cushy and comfy dog bed to call his own (and while he's not a constant snorer when he gets going, you'll know there is a bulldog in the house!). He is so easy going: dogs, cats, new people, loud sounds.... no worries! He's already learned "crate" and goes to his bowl at meal time, and is doing well at potty training, though he'll need some extra patience as he gets the hang of all the rules. He's a sweet, gentle soul, looking for a forever that can give him the love and comfort he deserves. Is it you?
Good with Dogs? Yes. Sobek is good with his foster sibling dogs but he would also be okay with being the only dog.
Good with Cats? He hasn’t been around cats a lot but when he has been he has been mostly curious.
Good with Kids over 6? Yes
Behavior while riding in a vehicle? Sobek loves car rides but he needs a little assistance with getting in the car.
Manners: Good. He’s charming. Sobek’s resilience and sweet nature given his circumstances are beyond words. He is a sweet gentle soul and has so much love to give. His little woos for treats when we are in the kitchen are heartmelting.
Walks well on a harness and leash? Yes, Sobek does not mind a harness and leash at all and he doesn’t pull but given his age and arthritis, he prefers to go do his business and come right back in. He loves being outside just not long walks. He doesn’t pay attention to other dogs when we are on one of those short walks. He’s very easy that way.
House trained? We are still working on potty training from ground zero has Sobek was likely an outside dog before being rescued by B2TR. At his foster home, Sobek does wonderfully when he is in his gated area and will bark to let you know it is time to go outside. He is only gated at this time because we still have some accidents once in a while when free-roaming the house. In his new home, he would need to continue with potty training and would need some time to adjust to his new surroundings as his eyesight is very limited. There may be a few bumps here and there but he is getting around very well in his foster home.
Crate trained? Yes, and given his limited eyesight, we have not attempted to leave the home without Sobek being crated or in his gated area. He can knock down baby gates if not secured but not aggressively. He just wants to be wherever you are.
Likes to be on the furniture? Like we said, he’s easy. Sobek enjoys the occasional cuddle on the couch but is also perfectly happy in his dog bed on the floor near you.
Are there any resource-guarding issues with guarding people, food, toys, space/areas, and/or beds? Sobek can be a little protective over his food, but he’s not aggressive. He does great waiting his turn for treats with the other dogs and does not try to steal treats from others when it is not his turn. However, he can be protective when it comes to his actual food and bowl at feeding time so he’ll be best fed separately (which honestly is standard practice for our fosters in most of their foster homes).
Separation Anxiety? None. Sobek typically sleeps in his crate when no one is home.
Bathing behavior? Tolerant of having facial folds, ears, and tail pocket cleaned? No issues with bathing or cleaning. Having his tail pocket cleaned is not his favorite but he’s okay. He doesn’t even mind being dried with the blow-dryer.
Behavior while having nails trimmed? Dremel or clipped? Does not mind. We have only used the clippers but will be trying the Dremel soon.
Favorite type of toys? Hard toys are his favorite and he loves his Benebone fish bone shaped chew.
Favorite activity? At the moment his favorite activity is sleeping but we have begun seeing him be more interested in playing with chew toys. Give him a bully stick and he is on cloud nine for a good little bit.
Good with stairs? No, due to his limited vision, he is very cautious about stairs and usually will not even attempt them. He is good with the one step on our porch and at the door but nothing more than that. In the past few days, he has become curious about upstairs and with work, it is something that he may become comfortable with but ideally, he would be best in a home where he could avoid many stairs.
Reaction to loud noises (thunder, fireworks, yelling, etc.)? None
Know any cues or tricks? Sobek knows “crate” and to go to his bowl when it is time to eat.
Snores? Yes but who doesn’t love a good bulldog snore. He doesn’t snore every time but when he does you know you have a bulldog in your home.
Snuggle interest? His snuggle interest at the moment is low but is slowly learning more and more about what cuddles are all about and enjoying it.
Energy level? Low
Dominant or submissive? When Sobek arrived at his foster home he was completely shut down and it has taken some time for his personality to start to show. Based on what we have observed thus far, I would say that he is more submissive. (Doggie Shrink Warning: This is not a personality trait, it is a descriptive term that is used to describe an interaction between two individuals in a single social interaction. It should not be used to label any animal, regardless of species, because bad TV has given the general public the wrong idea of how these dogs must be handled.)
Fenced yard required? No
Okay to live in an apartment or condo with close neighbors and be in the apartment complex dog in areas that are likely to have other dogs? Yes
Reaction to strangers in and outside the home and to new situations (fearful, laid-back, anxious, happy)? Laid back and typically uninterested.
Long-term physical limitations or conditions? Long-term medications? Glaucoma in the left eye with no visibility in that eye, limited vision in the right eye, and arthritis in his left elbow. Sobek will need to be kept on an anti-inflammatory to assist with arthritis but no other medications at this time.
Feeding: Sobek eats Stella and Chewy wild caught blend and gets 1 1/2 cups twice a day. Wild Weenies for treats. Sobek’s mantra? Who says you can’t have 10 wild weenies in a day?
REMINDER: Bulldogs should not eat winged proteins such as chicken, turkey, duck, etc., no grains, no sweet or regular potatoes, and need to be kept on a grain-free, limited ingredient diet to reduce allergic reactions such as itching, yeast, ear infections, hot spots, interdigital cysts, etc.
Sobek was found as a stray in South Carolina and was pulled from the shelter by the B2TR.
Age: 8
Weight: 60
