Wednesday June 19, 2024. Closed for the day. It was a good picking day. Still lots of blueberries left. Several came to pick a couple of pounds and ended up asking for another bucket to pick more. How does blueberry preserves on your toast sound? I prefer blueberry preserves instead of blueberry jam myself. How about a Blueberry Supreme Pie? There are so many yummy things to make with blueberries.

Tuesday June 11, 2024. Closed for the day. It was a good picking day. Still lots of blueberries left. Just look at these delicious blueberries picked by one picker. The picker found a sweet spot in the field and kept picking. Before she knew it, she had picked 4 buckets of blueberries. When I look at these blueberries, I see blueberry preserves, blueberry smoothies, blueberry pancakes, blueberry cobbler, blueberry muffins, a bowl of cold blueberries out of the refrig to snack on, and blueberries on top of my cereal. All so delicious to look at.

The Braddock Blueberry Farm located behind Kent’s Blueberry Farm was included in a 2,235 acres land sale to a housing developer in 2023. The farm is now being leased to Kent's Blueberry Farm and now an extension to Kent's Blueberry Farm. We now call it Field "B" and the front field, Field "A", to tell them apart.

FIELD "B" IS CURRENTLY UNDER RENOVATION TO SAVE THE BLUEBERRY BUSHES AND TO IMPROVE ACCESSIBILITY FOR PICKERS AND UPKEEP.

The blueberry bushes in field "B" will be accessible to pickers when Kent's Blueberry Farm has scheduled picking events. Check Kent's Blueberry Farm page for picking events.

It will support research at places like the University of Florida BeeLab Facility. The plate is being promoted by the Florida State Beekeepers Association, a non-profit organization. Before Florida will make this plate available through a Florida motor vehicle tag agency, 3,000 pre-sale vouchers must be sold before October 15, 2024. The Honey Bees need your help. Wednesday 6-14-23 after closing, a little storm passed through during the night between 9 pm and 10 pm. Damaged both 10' x 10' Easy Up tents from Sam's. Was able to save the fabric tops to both tents, but the framing to both was beyond repair. The tree was not near anything to damage. Glad of that. Received a cell phone weather alert minutes before it happened. Did not see the damage until the next morning.

Saturday June 17, 2023. Closed for the day. Did have a light rain shower the first hour and a half, but then the sun came out. Some did continue to pick during the rain shower wearing a rain jacket or with an umbrella while others hovered under the tent until the rain stopped. Buckets rinsed out and drying for the next picking. Will have to eyeball the bushes to decide when to schedule the next opening. The blueberries do not ripen all at the same time.

Would you believe all 26 holes were dug with a gas auger in less than 15 minutes. This is true, but only possible if the ground had been previously stripped of trees, stumps, and roots. Wish I could have planted the 26 blueberry bushes that fast. Planting them took much longer.

Check out hand drawn map for directions. Best to arrive early to beat the heat. We are a small urban farm trying to hang on as developers are purchasing the land around us. Not high tech. Cash only. Sorry no restrooms. So be sure to make a pit stop before arriving. Have discovered several with kids who go on regular outings carry a self-contained Porta Potti in their SUV or van for emergencies. Thought about renting a portable toilet booth for 6 weeks, but cost is prohibitive.

Info - The field gate to the left is the entrance to the Braddock Blueberry Farm, which is located behind my blueberry farm. Ray Braddock started planting his blueberry bushes in 1995.
