Itâs New Years Eve! This is the time of the year where individuals make their New Yearâs resolutions and plans for the upcoming year. We have a feeling 2023 will be the best year yet! If youâve been thinking of breaking into the animal care field or just want that once in a lifetime experience working with animals, why not sign up for the Spring internship right here at the zoo! Not only will you have the opportunity to gain practical work experience and knowledge of our domestic and exotics species, but youâll also learn the daily ins and outs of what it takes to keep this place going. Itâs a lot of work, but very rewarding. Registration reopens on January 3rd. Contact information can be found at the bottom of the flyer. If you have any specific questions about the internship, send us a DM on here and we will be happy to answer them or direct you to the appropriate person.
The Veterinary Office Assistant program also offers other animal classes you can take. You are not obligated to complete the entire program. You can take as many or as few classes as youâd like and youâll receive a certificate for each class you successfully complete. Mark your calendars! Some classes start as soon as January 3rd!
Everyone is stuffed with extra bedding and ready to ride out this frigid weekend weather. Stay warm! We sure will đđĽ°
Shout out to the awesome person who dropped these off for the critters. The cavies are enjoying them already!
Shout-out to Cathy for dropping off some pumpkins to us! We appreciate it!
đCongratulationsđ to the graduating class of the 2022 Fall Zoological Internship through Coastal Carolina Community College! We hope our Saturday visitors enjoyed interacting with them and the animals. They were definitely one of the hardest working and enthusiastic bunch weâve had thus far! We wish them luck as they continue their coursework and on their future endeavors in the animal realm. â¤ď¸

A little native wildlife passing through this morning. Can you name this species?
Even these little guys have a place in the wild, but we understand where fear of them can lead to some concern, especially if you find one in your yard. Here are some effective tips to deter snakes from your property:
-Keep the grass mowed
-Keep the yard picked up and free of debris/leaves
-If you see one in your yard, use a garden hose and light spray it to encourage them to move away from your property
-NEVER use moth balls, sulfur products (like snake away), gasoline, etc. Not only are these products not effective, but pesticides like moth balls are illegal to use outside of their intended use and can harm native wildlife.
Weâd love if each and every one of you joined the page NC Snake Identification and Education.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/ncsnakes/?ref=share
Not only will they teach you about native snakes, but they can also help identify ones that you find.
Happy Herping!
Classes begin next week!
No admission tests or anything required! Take one class or take multiple classes. Receive a certificate of completion with each course you take.
Zoologicial Internship is hosted at the zoo! See what it takes to be a zookeeper of hoofstock, avians, reptiles, and exotic mammals.
As we wind down NATIONAL ZOOKEEPER WEEK, a special shout-out is in order to these graduating interns for busting their tails during this hot summer to keep the park clean and the animals happy.
We also want to extend our gratitude to our faithful zookeeping volunteers that have done amazing things out here: Makayla, Cheyenne, Madison, Faith, WyattâŚthis place wouldnât be the same without you guys! â¤ď¸
Our Fall Zoologicial Internship course will be starting soon! For ages 18 and up- Need hours for vet school? Need animal related experience for your career? Wanting to see what it takes to be a zookeeper? Weâve got you covered!
The Veterinary Assistant program as part of Coastal Carolina Comminity Collegeâs Continuing Education Department is unique in that you can jump in at anytime and take one class or as many classes as youâd like in any order (Vet Assist 1 is a prerequisite for Vet Assist 2). Do you like reptiles, but have no interest in being a Vet Assistant? Thatâs ok! Take just Reptile Care and Management. Interested in rehabilitating injured wildlife, but being a Vet Assistant is not for you? Then just take Wildlife Rehabilitation hosted at the Predator or Prey Wildlife Sanctuary. Have a small animal such as a dog, cat, gerbil, hamster OR an exotic parrot like a cockatiel or macaw, and you want to know how to care for them and common illnesses to be aware of? Then maybe Small Animal Care and Management OR Avian Care may be right for you!
Registration fills up quick as we approach starting dates, so sign up soon!
We will be Closed Saturday, June 25th for routine Veterinary Services. We will be open Friday, Sunday, and Monday! âşď¸
