This sounds like a good way to get a tick to let go. I especially like the idea that it will be stuck to the Q-tip and you don't have to catch it or touch it.

GOOD TO KNOW! Tick Removal: A nurse discovered a safe, easy way to remove ticks where they automatically withdraw themselves when you follow her simple instructions. "I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a tick. "Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball Cover the tickwith the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20); the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. Please pass on.

With a too-small, totally inadequate shelter and staff of only two employees, Hamilton County Animal Control can only do so much. With the help of a few dedicated volunteers, especially Florida State Animal Response Coalition, they are rescuing 20+ dogs from the situation where their 84-year-old owner is in hospital dying of cancer. NOTE: The County Commissioners approved building an Animal Shelter but there is no completion date yet. Until then and as a person who has been involved in animal rescue for over 30 years, I appreciate what the shelter staff is able to accomplish 24/7. I encourage anyone who is dissatisfied with the level of service, real or perceived, find out how you can help to make it better. Complaining doesn't help the animals or the people who need help like this 84-year-old lady.

RESOURCE GUARDING THE FOOD BOWL is a common problem. Once the dog has the food, he/she needs to guard it. It's instinct. Remember dogs are difference. Some won't care, others will attack, and everything in between. There are a number of ways to safely teach the dog that you are not a threat to take their food but are the source of the food and good things. In other words, they can trust you. This is an excellent VIDEO of how Victoria Still well helped a dog with two issues: insecurity and aggressively guarding his food.

On another FB group, someone said he uses his dogs for protection so they are kept at home away from people so they would not be friendly to people. WHOA, that is wrong, wrong, wrong and very unsafe. I wrote to him that K9s trained for the military and modern trainers for law enforcement K9s want their puppies/dogs socialized and friendly. When they're working, they're working. When they are "off duty" or retired they make great family members and safe dogs with the p***c.

Use of aversive equipment that cause pain like prong collars, shock collars, and even choke chains don't communicate what you intend to your dog. Compliance comes from fear of pain and the owner's anger. A seemingly well-behaved dog is actually shut down and afraid. Is that the experience you really want for your companion?

Victoria Stillwell is one of the world's greatest trainers. Science-based, positive, force-free training methods make so much more sense than old-style punishment and negative methods and equipment. If you follow her, you will get many wonderful videos to watch and learn. Just click on "It's Me or the Dog" below. This pup needs help in several areas but mostly with his fear of the outdoors. Giving him confidence early prevents many problems later, including potential fear aggression. I hope you enjoy this video and others. Pet Owners need to know! Major private equity firms are buying up veterinary practices. They are doing to veterinary medicine what the big corporations have done to human medicine. FROM ARTICLE: Senators Warren and Blumenthal express "concerns about the rapid consolidation of veterinary care in the United States," and say that private equity firms, including JAB (a German firm), "have spent billions on buying up veterinary practices and then profiteering while reducing quality of care, increasing prices for pet owners, and making working conditions even harder for veterinarians." PERSONAL COMMENT: My husband said many years ago that "some people have discovered there's a lot of money to be made in health care" and he was right. Now it's happening in veterinary medicine.

Hamilton County dogs need help because they have been let down by humans. Please share. You never know who might fall in love with Elmo or one of the other dogs who are homeless through no fault of their own.

Elmo is searching for rescue or a loving adopter. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, dewormed and has been started on the slow kill heartworm treatment. We have to get some dogs out of the shelter or we will have to start euthanizing! Please share Elmo and the rest of the shelter dogs! They need your help to make it out alive. Contact us if you can squeeze even 1 dog into your rescue or add one to your family! We need to make space for 20 dogs that are in urgent need of a place to go.

ATTN: HORSE OWNERS. More horses in Florida have tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis (Triple E) so far this year than all of last year. So far counties affected are Alachua, Columbia, Levy and Marion.

19 horses have been infected with Triple E so far this year.
