Vidar definitely struggles with steadiness and it’s something that we started working on recently. Great genetics are oozing out of him and he is what every German Shorthaired Pointer is supposed to be. I definitely have my hands full with this punk🤪
Keeping Dexter’s off lead obedience sharp on our walk out after running a training line
Today is definitely bittersweet. Bonnie and Ted have completed everything that I can possibly do up to this point. To watch these two grow together as a team has been has been very enjoyable. I am honored to have been part of their development.
Our last line was pretty straightforward. A 1/2 mile of hooves only in extremely dry conditions, with swirling winds and aged 14 hours. Bonnie ran a near perfect line and only was off at one point. Something must have crossed our line overnight and left its own scent in an attempt to throw her off. I’m suspecting that it was a bear. Ted recognized her change of behavior almost instantly. Bonnie finished this 1/2 mile in 35 minutes. So proud to have been part of watching the development of this team.
Bonnie’s next phase is getting her on some known dead’s to help her achieve the next level. GREAT JOB TEAM!!! You’re going to make many hunters happy over your years of tracking 💪🧡
Vidar will soon be 5 months old and is coming along great. He’s a psychopath, don’t let his cuteness fool you. His heeling, automatic sits and stays are developing nicely 🧡💪 #gsppuppy #dogtraining #germanshorthairedpointer #workingdog #commitment #patience #consistency
Vidar was able to frolic on the long line a little this morning. We also worked on strengthening his recall. I’ve seen some bad videos posted recently on recall training. A little advice,
1. Don’t introduce an ecollar until your pup/dog has a clear understanding of the desired behavior
2. Start in an area with minimal distractions and build up from there
3. Always use their name as a positive thing. Teach them to love it
4. Be inviting and begin to praise as soon as they begin heading your way. Be careful to not over do it. Find that balance before the wheels blow off
5. Have a means for correcting if they hang up.
6. Increase your value
7. DON’T GET FRUSTRATED
These are just a few tips in a plethora of different styles
2 weeks ago the dnr was grating and replacing gravel over 30yds of a training line in an attempt to throw Dexter off. He crushed it and didn’t miss a step. Today they decided to try again with mowing both sides and the parking area that I created a scent pool in. Once again, Dexter was unbothered by their efforts to screw him up🧡💪
Aggie has entered the building!!! It’s taken some time to get here, but here we are. So proud of this gal and her owner. So thankful for businesses/orginizations that support dogs getting better through training

Mr. Murphy had some long line work today. Follow the leader is always fun and shows you where their focus is. Practicing recall through distractions is very important. It’s easy to train them to come in the confines of their comfort zone. This is where the real learning begins. Mr. Murphy is still struggling with some dog reactivity and needs about a 15’ buffer zone. We will slowly start closing the distance. A field trip to a local business that supports dogs getting better will be scheduled soon. Very proud of the owners commitment.
Prior to the dogs being banned at the Jerome Fire Department
Aggie also has graduated to the long line for some advanced training 🧡💪
