⚠️ GRAPHIC WARNING ⚠️ We know now what happened to Klaus at Katy Animal Control. I can’t say we are suprised.

Sweet Klaus was euthanized after being mauled by 3 other dogs when all 4 dogs were left unsupervised. THE ATTACK RAGED ON FOR 6 MINUTES AND 45 SECONDS before anyone noticed and stepped in. Klaus deserved better.

I was told by council member Robertson that everything was done to save him. That he’d seen the vet bills and it cost a ton of money. On the contrary, the only thing on the bill was sedation and euthanasia. And it was paid for by donations. See vet bill in comments. If nothing else, at least this one was sedated before euthanized- unlike any others at the Katy shelter. 

It’s common for pets to be left unattended together (total disregard for spay/neuter status and often overnight) it was something brought up repeatedly when pets kept leaving with injuries or dying.

At this point in time (April 22) there were 6 to 8 dogs in a shelter meant to hold nearly 30. Why are we not taking them out in their own runs? Or if they would like to play, 2 friendly pets together SUPERVISED!

Euthanasia is NOT the problem. Humane care is the problem. Even to this day, all pets are not being listed on the website. If that doesn’t bother you, it should.

Shelters are full all around us, it’s absolutely critical that Katy do better! As of now Katy and city council have ignored the problem, even told me to leave it alone.

Initial open records request, returned no video of Bessie’s aggression. However, City Councilman Robertson said that he himself saw with his own eyes a video showing how aggressive she was. Due to this statement, we did another ORR. This was the video showing Bessie’s aggression that led to her euthanasia at Katy Animal Control.

What do you think? There is MUCH more to come. Also, the same video in comments for those not wanting to watch in YouTube.

Should officers afraid of animals be working in an animal shelter? Should we be approaching animals with large brooms? The video we were sent is very short., you can’t see anything.

Euthanasia is NOT the problem. None of us have a problem with that. It’s the how and the why. We have shelters all over struggling for space, and needing help. Katy is never even remotely full. This was a travesty.

We have run into a local good Sam that has been taking care of around 20 puppies! She is in an area where many are dumped! DO NOT CHASE! We have trappers on standby to safely get him back once he is located, but scared dogs will run into the street if chased and that never ends well. Please, if spotted, contact us immediately and follow from a safe distance, do not chase him or it puts his life more at risk!

Approx 4 year old neutered male lab mix available at Fort Bend County Pets - Fort Bend County Animal Services in Rosenberg, TX

‼️One of shelters longest residents‼️

Comet is a happy-go-lucky guy who has unfortunately been at the shelter since DECEMBER 2022, without a single shelter break 😭. He is a volunteer favorite!! I can see how he keeps getting passed up. He jumps a lot in his kennel which I believe deters potential adopters. Once out of the kennel, he runs some laps and then is ready to lay next to you for some pets and kisses 🥰- I really think he would make an amazing companion for someone. He has been friendly through the fence with all different types of dogs, and I’ve never seen any aggression. Please consider adopting or even fostering- if you have some land or a nice yard this guy would really appreciate a much needed shelter break ❤️❤️

The pets at Barc need our help right now! This is a shelter, despite euthanasia due to capacity- they are trying. They spay, neuter, vaccinate, have volunteer programs and adoptions, this is why rescues help.

After the events over the weekend and unnecessary and surprise euthanasia of Bessie, we need to take a step back until the air is cleared and acts are cleaned up at the shelter.

To be clear, even as long time rescuers we are not opposed to euthanasia itself, and we support shelters. Shelters NEED our support to help pets get out safely, and to help work through behavioral issues, showing off how wonderful these pets can be, etc.

We have to community behind us, and y’all have so many resources to help. For one sole purpose, the pets! Thanks all of you for saving SO MANY pets from Katy over the years. ❤️

Our asks:

📌 We are asking to be notified of any upcoming euthanasia so we can put out a plea to help or help with behavior challenges. That’s not unreasonable.

📌 Staff treat all volunteers/visitors professionally and respectfully.

🐞 Bugsy 🐞 sweet little freckle nose boy that came in wearing a cute harness and smelling like he’d had a fresh bath. If owners aren’t found soon he will need a rescue tag! Please share our post to help get these dogs the help they need!
