For crying out loud! This is not a trial of an axe murderer! The judge has an ego and self aggrandizement issue! Jail a father for attending his son's graduation from high school, a once in a lifetime event? See how THAT plays with the American public!

Former President Donald Trump has been hit with an ultimatum to the cruelest degree. He now must choose between attending the graduation of his young son, Barron Trump, or facing jail. When Trump requested to miss a trial day for Barron's graduation on May 17th, Judge Juan Merchan denied the request...

Excellant article on proper nutition for older cats!

https://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2022/10/25/shrinking-kitty-syndrome.aspx?ui=4c08a09651406f621f6f4321275735d36709a404ba2356b13d934080731d5958&sd=20111218&cid_source=petsnl&cid_medium=email&cid_content=art1ReadMore&cid=20221025Z1&cid=DM1266447&bid=1628654807

Many kitties become 'the incredible shrinking cat' as they get up in years; both stress and underlying disease can be factors, but often the problem is diet.

This is Patches. She is only one of 200 cats we have in the sanctuary. With today's economy the way it is, people are dumping their pets into shelters all over the country. Mohave County is no different. We have 200 cats in our sanctuary. If we cannot sustain the sanctuary, these 200 cats will lose their lives. There is simply no room in our county shelters for all of these animals.
We have to feed all of these cats, buy litter for them, keep their pens clean, pay for veterinary care, and wash their beds. Everything costs money, right down to the gallons of detergent we use to wash their beds, wash their litter boxes, and wash their pens. In the past, we have been lucky enough to sell enough kittens to pay for the care and upkeep of these cats. This is no longer the case. We have not sold a single kitten since April 4th.
It costs us $230 PER WEEK just to buy the chicken we feed all of the cats on a daily basis. On top of that we feed TWO 16 lb bags of Iams cat food PER DAY. (That is 14 bags PER WEEK!)
We use ONE bag of pine pellet litter PER DAY and TWO bags of non-clumping litter PER DAY. That is 21 bags of cat litter PER WEEK!
We desperately need your help! PLEASE help us SAVE the cats. Patches and 199 other precious felines are depending upon us.

Amazon does not sell raw chicken. We have to buy that from the local grocery stores or WalMart. That alone costs us $230 cash per week. Your donations will help. No amount is too small!

12 Reasons a Senior Dog or Cat May Be the Perfect Pet for You
1.Seniors know proper etiquette — Unlike puppies and kittens, many adult pets have spent years living with a family and being socialized to life with humans. Senior kitties are old pros at using a litterbox; most older dogs are housetrained, and it takes a matter of hours or a day or two to help them learn the potty rules in their new home.

2.Senior pets respect your belongings — Older adoptive pets are years beyond the search-and-destroy puppy/kitten phase. You don't need to worry about finding your favorite pair of shoes or a table leg chewed beyond recognition. Chances are your senior kitty has no urge to dive headfirst into your potted plants or shred the handmade quilt your grandma gave you.

3.Seeing is believing — A senior pet holds no surprises as to how big he might get, what color his adult coat will be, or whether his hips will be healthy. A senior pet comes to you with his own history, which makes his future much more predictable than that of a puppy or kitten.

4.You can teach an old dog new tricks — Adult dogs can focus on the task at hand. If your adopted older pet needs to learn a few things in her new life with you, not to worry. Enroll her in an obedience class, contact a trainer, or go the do-it-yourself route. Older dogs are more attentive than puppies, and more eager to please their humans.

5.You can pick your perfect pet — If you're looking for a short-haired cat, for example, or a kitty with no history of health problems, you can search until you find an older pet with exactly those qualities. If you have a cat and are looking for a feline-friendly dog, you can ask to see older dogs who lived with cats in their former homes.

6.You can adopt a purebred senior — If you really love a certain breed of dog or cat, chances are there's a breed rescue organization that can point you in the direction of older purebred pets in need of homes.

7.Senior pets and senior citizens make a great team — Many elderly people find the calm presence of an older pet very comforting. They appreciate having a companion who is also getting up there in age, doesn't mind hearing the same stories again and again, and is content to move through life at a slower speed.

8.Older pets are easy to kick back with — Senior dogs and cats have all the basics down and aren't full of wild energy they need to burn off. Because you're not constantly chasing around or cleaning up after your older pet, you have a lot more time to spend having adventures or just relaxing together.

9.Adopted senior pets are forever grateful — Somehow, older pets seem to know you gave them a home when no one else would. Many new owners form a close bond very quickly with their senior dog or cat, because the pet shows them a level of attention and devotion that is unique to older adopted animals.

10.A senior pet is a relatively short-term commitment — The fact is, a senior dog or cat isn’t an 8 to 20-year responsibility like a younger pet is. This can be a serious consideration for an elderly person or someone who doesn’t know what their living situation might be in a few years.

11.We’re heading into the holiday season — Many people are looking for opportunities to be charitable this time of year, and I can’t think of a better way to give back than to help one less animal spend the holiday season in a shelter.

12.You can be a hero to a deserving older pet — Almost without exception, people who adopt older animals feel a special sense of pride and purpose in opening their heart to a hard-to-place pet. Doing a good thing really does make you feel good!

The Exotic Heritage Cat Association desperately needs help! We had a huge thunderstorm in Kingman last night. A flash flood came though our ranch and flooded our sanctuary shelter building with mud and water. There are huge mounds of mud around the door to the building, as well. We have to have someone come out to pump out the building and grade the ground around the building to restore proper drainage around the building.
We cannot even feed and water the cats as the floor is under 1.5 inches of muddy water and the cats will not come off their shelves. We have a crew coming out in about 90 minutes to start pumping out the mud and water. But, we do not have the money to pay them!
The cost is going to be around $8000 to pump out the water and regrade the land around the building to divert the water. We do NOT have that kind of money!
PLEASE! If you can donate any small amount to help raise the money, we would be so very grateful. You can send any donation directly to the sanctuary via PayPal. The sanctuary PayPal address is [email protected].

Animal Caretaker (Kingman)

Needed IMMEDIATELY ! Independent contractor, Part Time, to clean kennels and perform maintenance work at the Exotic Heritage Cat Association of America, a no-kill feline-only 501(c)(3)non-profit shelter located at 860 W Quail Crest Rd, Kingman, AZ 86409.

Feed and water cats. Clean litter boxes. Sweep or hose pens (depending upon the weather). Wash shelter floor.
Repair fences, repair plastic kennel panels, replace tarps, cut weeds. Full scope of the different positions will be discussed at the time of interview.

We do NOT pay under-the-table. The ideal person will have the animals' interests at heart, not just an interest in getting paid. MOST sanctuaries rely on volunteer help only. This is a good job for someone wanting to earn a little extra money per month.

Serious inquiries ONLY! Help is needed Immediately. Must have own reliable transportation and be willing to work on holidays. Looking for responsible self-employed person who can work without supervision, and who is willing to accept responsibility for the welfare of the animals under his/her care, as well as upkeep of the sanctuary grounds. Veterans are welcome, as are people with disabilities. Volunteers are also welcome. As an independent contractor, you will receive a daily rate of pay, paid weekly.

Inquire via EMAIL ONLY! NO phone calls.

05/28/2021

It is interesting how we get daily phone calls and requests from people wanting us to take their cats. Yet, we get no offers of support from the community. It costs $6000 per month to operate our facility. Money does not grow on trees. People always want free services. This is what the current climate in our country promotes. "Everything for free". Unfortunately, that is not reality. We are a private facility. Your tax dollars do not support us. If you want services "for free", go to your government supported facilities.
Cat food costs money. Cat litter costs money. Veterinary care costs money. Microchipping costs money. Vaccinations cost money. Cleansers and detergents costs money. Cat beds cost money. Operating the washing machines to keep the cat beds clean costs money. Paying for labor to help at the facility costs money. Consequently, because there is no community support for the service we offer, the Exotic Heritage Cat Association is no longer accepting any new cats. We will continue to care for the cats that we have, but we will not be accepting any additional animals.

Needed IMMEDIATELY ! Independent contractor needed on a part time basis to clean kennels and perform maintenance work at the Exotic Heritage Cat Association of America, a no-kill feline-only 501(c)(3)non-profit shelter located at 860 W Quail Crest Rd, Kingman, AZ 86409.

Approximately 4-5 hours per day, for 4 days per week. Feed and water cats. Clean litter boxes. Sweep or hose pens (depending upon the weather). Repair fences, repair plastic kennel panels, replace tarps, cut weeds. Full scope of work will be discussed at the time of interview. Could develop into full time work.

We do NOT pay under-the-table. The ideal person will have the animals' interests at heart, not just an interest in getting paid. This is basically a volunteer position. MOST sanctuaries rely on volunteer help only. We do not pay much, but at least we are willing to pay "something" for help.

We do not allow drugs or alcohol on the property. We pay a flat fee of $40 per day for part time work (paid WEEKLY) so speed of performance is not an issue. Again, this is basically a volunteer position with minimal pay. Veterans are welcome, as are people with disabilities. Work hours are flexible. As an independent contractor, start time can be anywhere between 8 AM to 10 AM and you work until you have finished the job.

Please do NOT call! I am too busy working and am not near the phone, and we do not get cell phone reception out here. SO...PM ONLY!

Incredible photo and story. Had to share!

The Story Behind the Photo...

The most well known photo that I have taken to date. I am sure that many of you have seen it around the internet a time or two, here is the story behind it.

One of my best friends Sue has a vacation home in the small Colorado mountain town of Westcliffe. She is always a gracious hostess and allows not only her dog crazy friends down to enjoy her house but all of their dogs too. In fact one Thanksgiving we had 6 people down there and wait for it…ELEVEN dogs! These dogs are together much of the time at home, for walks with one another and such so vacationing together is not a big deal, since they already consider themselves one big happy pack.

This particular weekend we were down celebrating Reese’s 7th birthday! Some of our friends had to leave early so that left just my three, The Three Scoops of Vanilla as you know them here on Facebook along with Sue’s crew, I called them the Three Non-Blondes. LOL! I did capture a photo of everyone before the others left, it is the first photo in the comments under this post.

I had prepared some very special treats for this crew, some delicious frozen bars made up of yogurt, bananas and peanut butter. So when you ask for dogs to cooperate for a photo such as this you had BETTER have some high value treats readily available for rewards!

I had photographed these dogs on the steps outside in front of the house many times over the years but wanted a challenge. I looked at Sue and said, “Do you want to help me capture the impossible photo?”

“Oh good grief Erin, what do you have in mind this time? Yes, of course I will help you.”

“This crew, on these stairs and we can alternate them, one of yours, one of mine, one of yours, one of mine, etc…”

“I am willing to try to help you and be sure first that your camera battery is charged and that you have your camera set on the fastest setting (action) to get this as you may only get them to stay still and pose for about 2 seconds.”

And so the two of us set out to do the impossible.

Thank God for food motivated well behaved dogs, they are the BEST!

I took Toby to the highest stair as she was the best about doing whatever I asked of her, soul dogs are good like that. Then Miss Mary went next, again one of the biggest pleasers around. Then Reese, the birthday girl and she is good but would much rather bounce around and NOT sit still, though she did. Then Beethoven, now he was tough. Good to a fault and always wanting to please but somewhat anxious at times as he was stone deaf. Such a good boy with hand signals and on this day he was pretty chill for the most part. Then my puppy, Annie who was all of 2 during the time this photo was taken. Last on the bottom was Cowboy, a sweet dane/lab cross. He had a broken leg and was severely abused when brought into rescue. After adopting him, Sue was able to get him through all of the surgeries and recovery. Ultimately though his head injuries got worse and he developed seizures which only got worse over the years. He was too big to fit on a stair but even if he wasn’t, the seizure risk made it necessary to keep him on the floor.

If you look closely, you will notice right away where Sue was standing for this photo. She was standing to the right of me, holding both hands out saying, “STAY! EVERYONE STAY!!!!” Her dogs eyes are all fixed on her. I also was saying, “STAY!!! GIRLS STAY!!!” Notice the Scoops all looking straight ahead at me.

Truly, I took so many photos in just a few seconds and then it was time for the release and that was the hardest part. Usually when I am done with a group shot, I will say, “OK!” and the dogs will run to me to get their well deserved treats. That was NOT an option here with open backed stairs and a bunch of dogs. I could only think about the possibility of a severe injury. So both Sue and I walked up to the stair case and pulled each dog down, one at a time to ensure everyone came away from the photoshoot feeling like it wasn’t a big deal. And the yogurt bar eating immediately commenced! I have photos of that too that I should share.

I have seen many sites that have shared my photo over the years (as long as my name stays on the photo, I am totally good with it). Some folks have called it “Stairway to Heaven” which is interesting because it seemed to go that way for a bit. Cowboy became an angel at the age of 9, followed by Beethoven the following year at 11 due to Lymphoma. Mary earned her wings in January 2019 at the amazing age of 15. Leaving only the yellow ones. Then in April 2019, Toby earned her wings at 13 1/2.

Beautiful Princess Reese just celebrated her SIXTEENTH birthday, May 15th 2020, we are so blessed to still have her!!!!! Of course I still have my sweet baby Annie too, who is now 11 this year!

I hope that this story gives some of you new found appreciation for what went into this photo, it will always be a special memory to me. And thank you to the many of you that knew that in fact I took this photo and that it was NOT done in Photoshop, though that can be done. Nope. I used the BEST dogs, good treats, a damn quick camera and patience to capture this one!

When you see a photo such as this, please let the photographer know that you enjoyed their work, it is those encouraging words that keep us going back for more!

The actual name of this photo is: Full House, Full Heart.

This is an urgent plea for help This cat is located in Tucson, but they will transport him to Kingman if we can find him a home! His name is Siam. He is a 9 year old Bengal, and he was owner surrendered this morning. During the normal vet visit they determined that he is FIV POSITIVE. So the foster arrangement the rescue group had for him fell through. They told the previous owner that they can’t take him at this point but would network to try to find a home for him. Unfortunately, the vet called the rescue back asking who has ownership as the lady walked right in and wanted him euthanized (killed). We cannot let that happen. Is there a soul out there without a cat who could hold on to him for a bit until a home is found? FIV is the lesser of the evils and is only transmitted to other cats through blood. This is a life and death situation!! Please help! Siam does not deserve this!! Contact SOS Cat Rescue AZ (https://www.facebook.com/SOSCatRescueAZ/?ref=br_rs) if you are able to help.

He was already handed down from a person leaving him at a groomer and not picking him back up. His owner passed away, and now this “caretaker” wants him euthanized.

The Exotic Heritage Cat Association needs your help urgently. It costs $1000 PER WEEK to operate the sanctuary and, due to the COVID19 , there is NO money coming in to feed and care for the 200 cats that reside at the sanctuary. These cats call the sanctuary their home. Many of them are senior citizens, well beyond the desirable adoptable age. We made a promise to these animals, when they arrived, that if they did not receive loving homes of their own, they could remain here for the rest of their lives and we would make sure they are well fed and cared for. Up until now, we have been able to keep that promise. Sadly, because of the pandemic, we have been unable to obtain the raw meat that we need to feed the cats.

We feed 160 lbs of raw ground chicken, 40 lbs of other assorted raw meats, and 20 bags of Iams cat food PER WEEK. We have been buying raw chicken quarters at Walmart for $0.69/lb and one of the local grocery stores has been DONATING assorted other meats that have surpassed their sell by dates. All of that has come to an end. We are unable to by enough chicken from Walmart as they now limit the amount one can purchase and are often out of the chicken altogether. The store who was donating no longer has any meat to donate (good for them, but bad for us). This means that we now have to replace the raw meat feeding with dry cat food, which triples our food costs per week. We do not have that kind of money available to us. Consequently, we are asking for anyone who can to donate money, Iams Adult Hairball formula dry cat food, Iams dry kitten food, non clumping clay cat litter, and pine pellet horse stall bedding or pine stove pellets. We go through one 40 lb bag of pine pellets and four 50 lb bags of clay litter PER DAY.

Anything you donate will be of tremendous help, even if it is only one bag of liter. The sanctuary is in desperate need NOW!

Money my be donated through PayPal to [email protected].

Checks can be mailed to the Exotic Heritage Cat Association of America at 860 W Quail Crest Rd, Kingman, AZ 86409.

Food and litter can be dropped at the front gate, or we can meet you in town if you call us at 928-757-1437.

All donations are tax deductible!

Thank you, in advance , for your assistance in keeping the sanctuary open and the cats safe.
