We agree! Copied from a post I’ve seen:

“Delete if not allowed, but I need to vent about something I'm seeing on dogbook lately.

Service dogs should absolutely cost money.

Whether they are donated to someone through an organization and a sponsor pays for them, or a person fundraises, or just has the money up front- they are a finely tuned medical device and the person who raised, trained, fed, housed, loved and vetted that dog for the first two years of its life should absolutely be compensated for that time and knowledge. Not just reimbursed- COMPENSATED.

If you want to owner train that's one thing. But even owner trainers for their first service dog should be using the guidance of a trainer and good training should cost good money.

So often I see people post "I've decided on a service dog- purebred only and already trained/partially started/outside the Fab 4 and I have no budget so looking for charity or a lengthy payment plan" and when I politely comment that service dogs are and should be expensive and why not go the budget friendlier route of fundraising to hire a trainer to assess rescue/shelter/private rehome candidates to be trained at home I get told I'm a monster.

So AITA? I have zero issues with people having dogs donated to them AT ALL. What I'm saying is that someone needs to fund that program- private donor, the government, the recipient, a non for profit situation, etc. I just want people to realize these things animals aren't cheap to produce and the people who dedicate their lives to providing them deserve to make a living too.”

Looking for a trained Service Dog but do not want to have to wait years to get the help you need?

You’re in luck! If you have done your research on costs and what goes into training and working a service dog, we have highly trained Golden Retrievers that are ready to match and begin Service Dog Task Training for their person.

These dogs have had years/hundreds of hours of training in Basic Obedience and Public Access and have foundations to some task training such as retrieval and picking up dropped items.

Not every individual with a disability is best fit for using a service dog, just like not every service dog is best fit with every individual with a disability. This is why we evaluate our applicants, and match our dogs based on personality, lifestyle, and task needs.

Service Dogs are expensive and you must have the ability to take care of and pay for your canine medical equipment to be considered for matching and placement. Costs of a Service Dog professionally trained in 3 tasks starts at $10,000 which includes Team Training and several months of Follow Up Appointments to ensure a happy lifelong working partnership.

We are located in Houston, Texas, and are experienced in placing numerous successful working service dogs with a variety of tasks. Realistically, the client needs to work with us in person. Clients should plan for not only the cost of the dog’s placement, but also expenses of high quality dog food and training treats, pet health insurance, routine vet care such as vaccinations and monthly preventatives, emergency vet care, gear, equipment, and so on.

We understand that cost is a challenge to many so we are willing work with a 12-month payment plan with a down payment. We want to see our dogs helping someone regain independence to live out their best life possible!

We also place candidates for therapy dog work, at-home helpers, and emotional support pets.

We have dogs available for adoption. We have released service dog prospects (dogs that don't quite make the cut) and pet dogs that we have taken in to help them find a loving home when their owners could no longer keep them. Each dog has varying degrees of training and are vetted. Contact us if you're looking to add a wonderful new furry family member! 😀

We have some started service or well-trained dogs available for placement with the right fit individual!

We also have some lovely adult dogs available that did not quite make our cut for service work, but might make a great therapy dog or pet.

The placement fee varies on training skill level but is generally significantly less than what we have incurred cost-wise and what we would charge for training and boarding a dog for the length of time that we have.

These girls are incredible and are going to make someone very lucky! If you are looking for a friendly, loving pet companion or service dog prospect, send us a message or an email to [email protected]

We have occasionally have service dog prospects come available that we are releasing from our training program. This means these service dogs didn’t quite make the cut for what we are looking for but have had many, many hours of socialization and training (some 200+) and would make excellent pets or even therapy dogs. Oftentimes they have even earned titles such as the Canine Good Citizen. If you’d like to see whether one of these dogs are a match for you, or if you’d like to try to continue to train them for yourself, let us know in the comments or message us and we will get you an application! These dogs do have a rehoming fee and are not “cheap” due to the significant amount of time and financial investment we have put into them. We are located in La Porte, TX and can set up meet & greets for approved applicants! We often use Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Poodles, and poodle mixes like Goldendoodles for our training program and they range in age but are generally young adults.
