🚀Ground Control to Major Tom: Stellar Sisters in need of an out-of-this-world foster home! Details below— can you help or share?

Meet Moon (L) and Star (R). These two are super shy in-shelter and we have decided to put out a BIG ask: we need to get them out of the shelter if we are going to be able to help them. We are looking for a dog-loving, experienced, quiet, no children household for them to become socialized in. They simply will regress more and more in-shelter: it’s loud, noisy and scary to shy dogs like Moon and Star — they need SPACE to thrive in..

Moon and Star are believed to be lab/pit mixes but are on the small side at around 25-30 lbs. They are young, and we know deep down these two sisters will SHINE once they’re given a little TLC and can learn to trust. We don’t know too much about them, but we don’t believe they have a mean bone in their body.

This mission, if you choose to accept it, will take time & attention and most importantly lots of love — so we are looking for a UNICORN foster — we know you’re out there. Can you hear us Major Tom? 🧑‍🚀

Caliber, our ambassador dog here at STPAS, is wondering if any of you nice folks will show up and adopt his friends tomorrow since you’ll all be off resting. It’s a LABOR of LOVE weekend ahead for us!

The shelter campus at 31078 Highway 36 will be open for adoptions tomorrow and we will also have over 25 animals at St. Tammany Fire District 9’s station location in Bush for onsite adoptions. All adoption fees are sponsored by a very generous benefactor and we cannot wait to place you with your perfect match!

👨‍🚒 This Saturday, August 31st, we will be at St. Tammany Fire District 9 from 10 am to 2pm for our Furred Responder Adoption Event!

🐾Take a look at some of the amazing pups and kittens we will have available for adoption this Saturday! All adoptions are sponsored meaning there is no adoption fee❤️ All animals are up to date on vaccines, microchip and spayed or neutered.

🧯St. Tammany Fire District 9 will also be serving a Spaghetti Dinner for only $10🍝 Come out for some good food and to take home a new furry friend!!

If you’re a pet owner in need, come into our lobby and ask about our pet food pantry. We will ask a few questions and thanks to our community, will be able to get you something to hold you over until the next paycheck.

Special thanks to Kamryn, the Girl Scout who made this her Gold Award Project in 2021; since its creation — our community has been able to help hundreds of pet owners feed their pets when times get tough and the unexpected happens. ❤️

We wanted to let everyone know that we are going to pivot our open hours back to 10-4 on Monday-Friday. This will not include scheduled appointments already in the books. Our Saturday hours of 8-4 will remain in affect. We are always open through lunch, Mon-Saturday. As always, we will be closed on Sundays. Specific holidays we may be open for adoptions only.

Staff will be on site at 8AM but will be cleaning and this does not affect animal control operations.

What this means: if you find a stray animal within the confines of St. Tammany Parish and would bring it to us, rather than coming in at 8 with the animal, please come in at 10. If this doesn’t work for you, please contact animal control at 985-809-0183 and an animal control officer can pick up the stray animal.

If you want to adopt, we will find a staff member to help you find your perfect match, but please try and honor the 10:00AM opening time. We chose 8-10 because on average, that is not generally a time when adopters come to visit.

Owner surrenders are still by appointment; not withstanding emergency scenarios.

If you are a foster & have an appointment, your appointment will still be honored.

We want to ensure animal care in shelter is our highest priority and thus the hours of 8-10am during the business week will be used to make sure we get a head start on the day making sure our animals get the standard we expect and if possible, extra TLC.

Without fosters (& the help of our buds at Mardi Paws & their supporters) — stories like Shaka’s simply wouldn’t be possible. Please consider fostering to help a shelter animal out!

📣A huge thanks to the Piekarski Family for offering to foster Shaka Zulu while he recovers from his FHO surgery - boy are we grateful to them! 💗

Mom Sandra reports he is doing fantastic, and Jen made sure she knew lots of photos were part of the foster agreement, so they'll be forthcoming! 😉💗

We sure didn't want this angel going back to the shelter's exam room while he healed, and thankfully longtime [and wonderful] volunteer Patrick took her in for a couple of nights until we could get it all arranged! 💗

Shaka and his sibling were owner-surrendered a couple months ago to our parish's high intake shelter, St. Tammany Parish Department of Animal Services.

This poor angel has been limping in the shelter and thanks to our wonderful supporters, we were able to get him into the talented hands of Dr. Jenifer Newton and her team at South Paws Veterinary Surgical Specialists and save his leg!

We'll keep you posted on this angel!
