With the installation of a rain garden in the right place, you can reduce runoff from your property in a natural way. Besides, a well-maintained rain garden has curb appeal too, so it’s a bonus for any homeowner.

A rain garden can also become a shelter for birds or a paradise for pollinators. With the proper selection of plants, you can even help to filter out pollutants as the water flows on its way.

Sound good? Here's how to make one for yourself: https://www.ruralsprout.com/rain-garden/

Continuing the oyster journey. Pasterurizing the straw using the hydrated lime cold water method. This creates a high alkaline environment that sterilizes competitors when we inoculate. Oysters do not mind this pH.

Today marks a historic step for fungi! National Geographic Society has included FUNGI in their definition of WILDLIFE, placing them alongside plants & animals.

This isn't just wordplay; it literally means that mycology has been declared an area of interest, therefore unlocking crucial funding for fungal research and projects looking to investigate and protect fungi from all over the world.

“Our wildlife work now covers projects that inspire and empower local and global audiences to better understand and protect wildlife, including animals, plants and fungi,” said Ian Miller, Chief Science & Innovation Officer at National Geographic Society. “The same threats that affect plants and animals, such as habitat destruction, climate change and overharvesting, also affect fungi. We hope that by including fungi, current and future Explorers will know the Society supports projects that aim to understand, illuminate, and protect these critical organisms.”

At Fungi Foundation, we’ve been working for fungi, their habitats, and those who depend on them for almost 12 years. Seeing that our constant advocacy is reaching institutions as fundamental in conservation as National Geographic Society, reaffirms our mission.

The inclusion of fungi as an official area of interest at NatGeo places on an equal footing with flora and fauna when referring to macroscopic life on Earth, and strengthens ongoing efforts by the Fauna Flora Funga Initiative, led by Fungi Foundation, New York University School of Law MOTH Rights Project, and Merlin Sheldrake.
