Lighting
Sulcatas that are Wild, Sun comes up and sun goes down. They come out in the morning and evening not during the heat of the day. I like timers, sun comes up, light comes on. Sun goes down, light goes off. Pretty good idea uh. NO LIGHT AT NIGHT UNLESS YOU'RE HOUSE IS UNDER 56 DEGREES. Why, you ask, 3ft deep there hole in the ground stays at 56 degrees. No lower no higher. In my house I use UVB, UVA, HEAT all in one bulb. I have a cool and a hot side. Light at one side only, (obviously, light is on the hot side). I try not to go higher than 90 degrees. They only need 86-88 degrees to digest there food. Don't believe me, read a book

Food
Sulcatas will eat everything. It does not mean they should. If a tortoise is in the wild do you think they say oh wait that's poisonous, OH NO!. I don't feed avacodos(Due too parrots are not supposed too), onions, and regular potatoes. Other then that they eat it. Dark greens, bright colors more vitamins. Everything in moderation is good. If not sure or concern ask Google. Don't ask people that have not been doing this for less than 10 years. Oh, and 1 tortoise does not make them and expert. Don't believe me read a book.

Bedding
Hear me out before commenting. Sulcatas, I use rabbit food pellets. Ok, start screaming. Sulcatas are dessert do your homework. They do not require humidity. You soak in water every other day. They also will get some moisture from food. You hand pick food and p**p daily and you use a small dust pan for bigger mess. NEVER ADD WATER TO RABBIT PELLETS. Oh, and they can eat it, it's grass. They also do not get choked or impacted. Ok, all comments can read a book

Past
I started with 1 hatchling Sulcata 1995 2nd hatchling Sulcata 1996 and 2 Redfoots in 1997. So maybe that does make me an old timer. Still doing it today

Question to those that actually know. What would you pay for a proven Breeder female Sulcata. Lays average 4 times a year, at least 20 eggs.

MR. FEISTY died a couple of nights ago, date of hatch 5/24/17 Date of Death 1/22/19. He helped raise a lot of babies, but never grew. He was a lot smaller then most hatching. He will be missed and I will see him in heaven. Mr. Feisty was hatched a twin which his sibling was dead in the egg. Hatched the night of May 24, 2017. We had to tie dental floss on the umblical cord which attached the 2 baby Redfoots. As you can see Mr. Feisty is not growing very much, but lives up to his name
