And the blows just keep on coming 😔💔

Meet Willow (L) and Brody (R).

We were made aware of a 20+ dog seize from a hoarding situation in a neighboring county yesterday afternoon. 2 dogs removed from the property were Lancaster dogs adopted out back in February of 2021. Two more of our dogs who should have been safe in a forever home but instead were miserably failed. Willow is unfortunately now heartworm positive with a heart murmur and also appears to have a tooth needing pulled. Brody has a bilateral ear infection desperately needing treatment. Our kids are getting settled back in. We will work over the next week to get to know them all over again and evaluate their medical needs further. Pending more info.

As you all can see, we have our hands dipped in so many honey pots right now. Currently, rescue is one big dumpster fire traveling down a river at rapid speed about to take a dive off a massive waterfall at any given second. We are struggling not only to put out the fire but also to build a dam fast enough to stop the dumpster from falling off a massive watery cliff to it’s untimely demise. The mission feels hopeless. We know it is impossible. There is just no way to save them all but we sure as h*** are going to go down trying.

We have 6 dogs remaining in Maryland with no offers and a 4pm deadline. Our own shelter is over capacity and our longest residents, many of which are puppies who’ve grown up in the shelter, face an uncertain future and possible deadlines of their own without movement before tomorrow afternoon. Today we watched as our friends in Chesterfield (our neighboring county) had to see so many of their babies across the rainbow bridge due to an extreme deficit in kennel space. There are still 25 federal dogs needing placement with only about a week to make miracles happen. We were also made aware of two separate large cases in neighboring counties. The hits just do not stop coming. We are at a loss. We don’t know where to turn. All assistance seems to have come to a halt. We are drowning 😔💔.

🚨DEADLINE FRIDAY AT 4PM🚨 our dogs in MARYLAND have been given their eviction date. We have had an offer on ONE of the seven. We are working to get Kasey back to South Carolina 🤞🏻. The remaining dogs have had no interest 💔. Dinozzo (now Rolo) was just a baby when he left here 😔. PLEASE help us give these babies the chance they deserve. We are SICK over this.

He has a lot of puppy energy still and still needs work on manners. He LOVES people and gets super excited to make new friends. He will need a patient family understanding of puppy antics.

About 6 months old, terrier mixed, hw negative, tested well with other dogs but prefers to be in charge. He is best placed with submissive or indifferent dog friends.

In one week we lost eleven. Let that sink in. Eleven lights on this earth burned out. To put that into bigger prospective we lost 23.9% of our shelter’s canine capacity 💔. Each of them deserved so much more. They deserved a chance they never got 😔. We hope the world is kinder to you in the next life sweet ones 🥺.

Upon reopening this morning staff received EIGHT phone calls requesting to surrender in just the first HOUR. We are in for it yet again this week 💔. They are just not moving. There is nowhere and I mean NOWHERE for them to go! Everyone is past full. Shelters, rescues, foster homes are bursting at the seams. We need this village stepping up in a BIG WAY! Let’s save some lives 🥹🤞🏻

Java was found as a stray and brought in by a good sam. She unfortunately has gone unclaimed. Staff has noticed her as very sweet but can be a bit nervous. Java didn’t seem overly shy when I visited her in her run and was eager to sit nicely for treats. She seems to be treat motivated and knows some commands. Plus, I mean those ears 😍.

🚨ADOPTION RETURN🚨

We feel so guilty for not networking our boy harder 😔. He had an approved adopter who changed their mind 💔

🐾 Fraiser | Status: Ready to go home

This sweet boy originally came in when a good sam found him as a stray back in May. He was adopted at the beginning of last month. Fraiser returned on 8/2, after being picked up as a stray in a neighboring county. His owners did not wish to reclaim him so now he is back with us. Fraiser just turned a year old and is clearly having a rough go at it thus far. Undoubtedly brought into this world by a greeder just to be tossed out like Thursday’s trash not once but twice in just his first year of life. YOU have the opportunity to help us change that for him. Let’s show this sweet boy another side of humanity. He deserves to know what “family” truly means.

Fraiser is a young boy who’s spirit has been crushed but underneath the hurt has a true zest for life. He still has his puppy spirit and is a playful guy. With legs like his he may just make a good running partner for a track star 😂. He is really such a sweetheart and will make a great addition to most any family.

1 year old, pittie mix, he was 38lbs and heartworm negative at the time of adoption (pending updated weight and hw test), Fraiser is neutered, chipped and utd on all vaccines. Previously dog friendly, pending updates eval.

We are heartbroken to be bringing more bad news this week 😔. We have had ZERO adoptions. 1 puppy is leaving for rescue today and 1 adult dog has received rescue commitment. That only opened 1 run. We have been doubled up for days now. The intakes continue pouring in at extremely alarming rates.

We have lost SEVEN lives already this morning. We are facing about 5 more this afternoon without movement. Potentially even more dependent on how many intakes come in throughout the day. We’ve been begging, pleading, screaming out for assistance for our babies to what feels like a void. They are dying 💔. No Fosters = No Rescue

The 7 lives lost were behavior cases. While staff does their best to work with these dogs and help them to come around time has not been on their side lately. Longest residents and medical dogs will be on the list this afternoon without a major change in movement.

Look at these gorgeous retrievers 😍

Guinness and Kahlua came in through animal control and were never reclaimed. Although they came in together, that doesn't mean they have to be adopted together. Both have amazing personalities and a love for the play yard! Like typical retrievers they LOVE playing fetch and swimming in the pool. These two are ready to go home!

There's really not much good news to share here. 😕

- no federal case dogs have had any rescue offers. Not one. Over 50 contacted. No foster offers nothing. They are all going to die with the exception of 5 that will get 30 days of boarding for extra time to find placement. $600 a month per dog.

- 2 mommas and pups remain at our shelter for weeks with zero rescue inquiries or foster offers

- several medical dogs with no help

- no movement at our shelter. Lots of lives are at risk.

- bigger update coming shortly about 7 of our dogs. Not good news. Absolutely defeating news. (Posted on fb, posting to Instagram shortly)

- behind on pull fee costs and will get those posted as soon as I have some time. I know we owe about $600 still for July.

Wish we had better news to share. This is our reality. We try so hard. 💔

Let’s talk about something for a moment, shall we? This ”save them all” mindset has GOT TO GO. We are seeing the “No Kill Movement” causing more suffering than anything else. Not only is the No kill philosophy causing insurmountable pain and suffering but it is KILLING animals.

Our staff and volunteers work tirelessly day in and day out to move our dogs out to safety. We should NEVER have to save our dogs again BUT HERE WE ARE! A partner “rescue” of ours in Maryland had 70 animals seized from their property. Nearly a dozen of those were our dogs. Dogs we busted our tails to save. Dogs this organization received thousands in pledges and heartworm sponsorships for. Yet our babies are sitting in Calvert County Animal Shelter STILL HEARTWORM POSITIVE 🤬. There are no words… just none, to even begin to explain the hurt and anger we feel regarding this tragic situation. Our staff does their best to screen rescue partners. We have a strict vetting process for potential partner rescues. Not every rescue can pull from Lancaster. We get flack for it all the time, because “How dare (we) not let someone who is trying to help save the dog(s)?!” We are ”picky” with who we trust to save our babies. I hope now you see WHY.

We have 7 dogs still sitting in MARYLAND. They’ve been there for months and the shelter is out of space. These dogs have just received their eviction notices. Their time is running out. These dogs escaped euthanasia in a rural southern shelter just to end up with their lives on the line again. All of these pups had sat with this “rescue” for months prior to this. We can not bring them back or current residents would be euthanized to make room for dogs who’ve had months or even a year plus for a few to find homes. It is not fair. It’s nit right Linda L. Kelly Shelter in MD is put in this predicament. It is not fair we are in a position where we can’t run to our babies because we would, there is just no room. Nobody has room 💔

This girl is not my typical “type” but oh my am I in love 😍. There is just not enough good things that can be said about her! Plus I mean, look at her! She is STUNNING!

From her silky cream colored fur to her sandy eyes, one with a little speck of ocean 🌊 blue 💙, this girl is drop dead gorgeous. Her stunning appearance is just the icing on top of the cake! Dezi is sweet as honey 🍯 and so very gentle. She is just a beautiful kind soul who craves nothing more than love and affection.

🆘 ABSOLUTELY NO MOVEMENT THIS WEEK 😭. ZSTILL BEGGING FOR ASSISTANCE ‼️

🐾 Lefty | Status: Extreme high risk 🚨2️⃣6️⃣ days and aside from an approved applicant that backed out Lefty has has no interest 🥺

Brought in by a good sam with a small breed dog who was quickly adopted. Lefty is a sweetheart who just wants to be in your lap. She is a petite terrier mixed girl at only about 37 lbs. Her person will need to be willing to put in a little leash work with her as she seems to be pretty nervous on lead at this time. Despite coming in with another pup Lefty has not tested well with other dogs here. She is very insecure around them. She will either need a home where she can be the one and only or someone willing to take the necessary time to help her decompress and SLOWLY (over a period of months not a few hours, not a few days…MONTHS) introduce her to other pets in the home. We believe she will warm up best to a calm dog who will give her space as she takes the time to adjust.

Oh how I love this sweet girl so much!! Cleo was brought in as a stray and never reclaimed. She is the cutest wiggle butt and wants nothing but love and kisses. After snuggling for a while... and I mean a while, she'll finally decide she wants to run around and play with toys. We also later did find out she's a water enthusiast. She loves to splash in the doggy pool! This cutie pie is ready to break out of the shelter and find her forever home.
