********SPLASH PAD UPDATE *******

THE ISSUE
The timer that turns the water on and off automatically is broken. As a result, the water needs to be turned on and off manually.

COMPLAINTS
The Parks Department is receiving complaints when the water runs continuously AND when it’s not running at all.

STATUS
This equipment is old and as a result, the whole thing needs to be rebuilt. It’s not an easy fix and it’s a work in progress. There is no prediction on when it will be fixed. The big side is the 1st priority.

IN THE MEANTIME
There is a possibility it will run during the hours the parks department is working which is from 6a to 3p, M-F ONLY.

BOTTOM LINE
The Parks Department cares and is doing the best they can with what they have to work with.
So, whether it’s on or off, ENJOY and stay SAFE!

Did you know that your dog could suffocate in a snack bag? This story is about a local woman and her dog. Please show your support for Wendy and Kindle by sharing.

And, always cut the bottom out of bags before putting them in the trash. Consider emptying the snacks into another container.

Sadly, this heartbroken family lost their beautiful 7 year old Border Collie named Kindle on Wednesday when she suffocated in a chip bag. Wendy Jordan, a professional dog trainer, says, "I can’t write now. It’s too raw. I have warned people for years about Pet Suffocation. I’m a dog trainer/business owner by profession. And today, because I left a chip bag on a table, in an area I thought the dogs didn't have access to but knew they sometimes could get through, my best dog of my pack is gone. She opened the gate to the deck, went up the steps, got the chip bag, took it down the steps, even spilling some of the chips, and then somehow accessed the inside and suffocated. She was right beside my gate where she is used to entering and exiting the yard. I’m devastated. I may never buy a bag of chips again. I used to worry about this when my kids were young, and I warned my kids when they left home with their dogs, and yet one freak accident, and I’m the one it happens to."

Even though someone may already know about pet suffocation and take all safety precautions, accidents can still happen. We can only do our best. Kindle was a very determined pup. Her story will help save other pets from this happening to them. Please help us spread awareness. Thank you.

FYI:

Did you know that the *turf at the dog park gets very hot for our dogs feet?
It’s especially a concern on the big dog side where there’s little shade.
Booties - and treadmills - are an option that I think will become the norm in the future as our weather gets hotter.

Stay SAFE and ENJOY!

*Newer turf doesn’t heat up like our older turf.

REMINDER:
Toys - especially these - should never be brought into the dog park. Some dogs will fight over toys and other will eat a rope toy. It can result in death so let’s keep toys at home!

We’re sorry to report that the water feature/splash pad on the big side is out of commission for the year.

Here’s the good news! Our wonderful Park Supervisor, Fredo Pagan, is going above and beyond by supplying water sprinklers.

The not so good news is that they are stolen. So, if you want to be proactive & insure there’s water for your dog, bring your own! And, if they are stolen and you want to donate, let us know and we’ll give you a big shout out here!

REMINDER!
Kids are to be accompanied by adults inside the dog park and ball launchers are not to be used on people!
Sometimes it takes a village. Feel free to ask kids to stop what they’re doing or leave. We all need direction sometimes.
(BTW, the pic of the child has been removed from the original post. Thanks for your feedback. We’re told the child is often there without the parent and the parent seems unconcerned. He was sending the balls over the fence. People were hit and hurt).
