This message is to inform everyone that the dog park will be closed the morning of Monday, May 16th until 4:00 PM for turf maintenance and w**d control.
And no need to worry as the products used are safe for animals and people once dry.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

In this week's MT Employee Spotlight, let's get to know Harry!

Hello, I'm Harry Norton, the Adult and Family Program Manager for the Manheim Township Recreation Department. Currently, I also administer the Overlook DogPark and sports field reservations.

I love to spend time with immediate and extended family in various pursuits, visiting the beach, fishing, reading, golfing badly, and pickleball, prior to my knee surgery.

Overlook Community Campus is my favorite park because of its variety. There is so much to do and so many unique features. My dog and I stumbled across a deer one day walking past a small, wooded area.

I started my 36th year with the Township at the end of April, and providing top quality recreation opportunities has always been changing, challenging, and rewarding.

In addition to enjoying the faces and reactions of a smiling child or satisfied customer, some of the most fulfilling moments are when I encounter an adult who says "Remember me? I remember you from..." or "I worked playground for you 25 years ago - best job I ever had."

What we do impacts people's lives in ways we may never know, so always put on your best face and provide the finest service possible.

The Manheim Township Recreation & Parks Planning Dept has scheduled a general meeting for Dog Park Members on Tuesday, May 10th at 6:00 PM at the MT Public Library's Morgan Center. This is an opportunity to meet and discuss all things "Dog Park". Topics of discussion will include current dog park rules, reporting procedures for incidences and problems, membership numbers, and any other issues the attendees wish to bring to our attention.
The goal is to continue to provide a safe venue for dogs to be off-leash while enjoying the benefits of exploring, socializing, and exercising through pawsitive playtime experiences.
Mark your calendars, and we hope to see many of you there!

One of our members, Robin Aurillo (Eve & Ignatius, the black&white BorderCollies mom), sent us the following message:
"Hi - I've been missing an XL white chuck it ball thrower for several weeks and just today heard from a member while at the park that it was left there on top of the lost and found box for a few weeks, just so happens I was away and just back today! If by any chance anyone is holding on to it I'd love to get it back as they are super hard to find right now. Thank you! BTW I did check at Stauffer Mansion and it hadn't been turned in yet ."
THANKS in advance to anyone who found it ! You could message Robin directly or drop it off at the office in the Stauffer Mansion for her to pick-up 😎

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Manheim Township Police and Wayne’s Towing have teamed up with our local Saint Andrew Ukrainian Catholic Church, to provide support for Ukrainian refugees and their military. We are asking our community members to help by donating "humanitarian aid items" (listed on our flyer).

Manheim Township Police officers are also challenging other law enforcement agencies, asking them to join our efforts! Officers from any police department are encouraged to stop by our public "fill a truck" event on April 16, 2022, at Wayne's Towing. We are asking that our fellow police officers help by donating "urgent military items" (listed on our flyer). All are welcome at the event!

This past Monday at the Board of Commissioners' meeting at the Manheim Township Public Library, Robert Cummings was awarded a Certificate of Commendation for his life-saving actions on December 13th, 2021.

Robert, a Manheim Township employee on duty at the Overlook Activities Center, was overseeing the Pickleball program when a participant went into cardiac arrest. He performed life-saving procedures until emergency medical services arrived.

Robert Cummings (pictured on the left) was present to receive his commendation for the aid he provided to the individual (pictured on the right), who was also present.

It was a remarkable and deeply touching moment when they embraced. Thank you to Robert for truly seizing the moment to make a difference and help another person in need. What a community we live in!

When the United States flag becomes worn, torn, faded or soiled, it should be replaced with a new flag. But what do you do with the old one? The answer is not to simply throw it away, but to “retire” it in a dignified way.

A member reported that yesterday her dog's tags fell off the collar when playing in the park ... could have been either in the common or large dog areas. If anyone notices them, please drop them in the old lost&found bin inside the main gate. Thanks All !

By this time many of you have noticed that certain functions on our somewhat outdated Overlook Dog Park website are not functioning properly. For example, the Rules & Regulations and the Incident Report tabs are not accessible. We are working on getting all the information and reporting functions transferred to the Manheim Township website.
In the meantime, any reportable incidents should be made via email to: [email protected]
Any inquiries, suggestions or questions regarding registrations & payments, fob issues, lost & found items, etc, should continue to be messaged to: [email protected]
Thanks for your patience as we work through these website issues. We'll email a notification whenever the improved site becomes available.
Think Spring !
