Free Haven At Free Haven Farms, we see food as medicine. We believe that many of the illnesses in society from physical to mental even emotional are connected to the quality of food that we eat. The amount of pesticides, insecticides, and fertilizer has had a negative effect on health and environmental conditions. Our commitment to work harmoniously with nature in a sustainable way, free of pestic
ides, synthetic fertilizers, and toxic insecticides ensures the absolute highest quality of food; high in nutrient content and taste. We give special attention to soil, seeing it as the fundamental component to successful food production. Teach him how to grow some vegetables, feed him for life! At Free Haven Farms, education is a fundamental aspect of our focus. Having years of experience working with children and adults, we have found successful ways to inspire and empower individuals to connect with nature, grow their own food, and improve their quality of life. Micaiah Hall aka Ras Micaiah is the Founder of Free Haven Farms. He developed a love for farming at the young age of 9 and continued his involvement in agriculture throughout his youth. He became certified as a plumber and was employed in the field for many years but returned back to his roots in agriculture. Micaiah was employed at Mill Creek Farm in West Philadelphia for over 4 seasons as the Farmer/Co-Director. While he was there, he managed weekly farmerβs markets and grew over 6,000 lbs of food annually on a Β½ acre lot. Since his involvement in urban agriculture for the past 10 years, he has implemented lessons and curricula to youth in schools and after-school programs. Dr. Cynthia Hall is the Soil Scientist at Free Haven Farms. She is currently an Associate Professor of Geosciences at West Chester University in West Chester, PA. Her research focuses on contaminants found in soil, such as lead and arsenic, which have negative impacts on human health and ecosystems. As a Ph.D. student at Georgia Tech, she studied the nitrogen cycle in an effort to understand nutrient deficiencies in certain soils and sediments. Dr. Hall brings over 15 years of experience in soil science to Free Haven Farms to assist with producing the highest quality soil, high in nutrients and no contamination, as well as the educational programs offered at the farm.
