Hello friends and fur friends alike!

We hope all is well and wanted to take a moment to tell you
about some new things that we have to offer here at the Animal Clinic of Lawrenceville. We now offer generalized comprehensive blood work, f***l, and urine tests in conjunction with Idexx. These tests are most appropriate for middle-aged to elderly clients that are just in need of a routine check-up as we send them off to Idexx. Meaning, 7 years of age or older. But they can be used at any age! Because these tests are to test for a baseline or to see how the body is doing as it ages, they can be offered at a fraction of the price versus what they would cost for us to do in house. These tests are available for cats and dogs alike. Simply ask your vet about them during your next appointment or give us a call at 618-943-4112.

Thank you and here is to a great 2024!

-Staff, Animal Clinic of Lawrenceville

Jason Adams

We are sorry that you are unhappy with our customer service today. I want to take a moment to explain that The Animal Clinic of Lawrenceville has been an appointment only clinic for at least 37 years. The reason being, to assure a balance between time for small animal clients that needed to be seen and the sporadic appointments of large animal clients that would call Dr. Van Winkle away. As the practice grew and the switch to a small animal clinic started, this scheduled appointment time was kept out of respect for our clients’ time and our staffs’ time. This assures all animals have an equal voice are seen for their issues and concerns they and their owner is having.

We believe that appointments should be utilized for vaccines/allergy shots and other non-emergent issues and The Animal Clinic of Lawrenceville has always and will always see emergency walk-ins as soon as possible.

We switched our appointments from Saturday morning to Thursday morning to assure our staff has sufficient time to spend with their loved ones and fur babies on the weekend.

The Animal Clinic of Lawrenceville is one of the first clinics to receive a new FDA approved medication for osteoarthritis (OA) pain, Librela! Librela is a monoclonal antibody that has been shown to clinically reduce the progression of osteoarthritis pain. Chronic pain from osteoarthritis robs animals of mobility making daily living difficult or even unbearable. Attached is a pain checklist that you, the owner, can go through and see if Librela may be an option for your dog's OA pain. Just like in humans OA pain can be difficult to live with and dogs have the added difficulty of not expressing their pain in the same way humans can. So at times it can be difficult to tell if they are experiencing any discomfort. Call the office today and schedule a consultation with your vet to see if Librela could improve your dog’s daily living and overall longevity. View the attached checklist to see if Librela might be a choice for your dog. Visit the website below for more details.

Away In A Manger
At least 33 different kinds of animals are mentioned in the Bible, some are referred to many times. Nearly every Nativity Scene includes animals that may have been present at the birth of Jesus. The Bible tells us that Jesus was born in a stable or barn but it does not specifically mention which animals were present at his birth. Over the years, artists have taken great liberty in depicting which animals they believe may have been present in the stable. Some nativity scene paintings are very simple and include a few common farm animals like a donkey, sheep, and oxen. Other paintings are very elaborate and include peacocks, dogs, and ordinary cats.
Every Nativity Scene animal has a special meaning or purpose. At the time of Jesus’ birth, only wealthy people or royalty could afford horses. The inclusion of a donkey in the nativity scene reminds us of Jesus’ meager beginning. The ox or oxen are present because their breath may have kept the newborn Jesus warm on that cold night. Sheep are present to remind us that Jesus is the Lamb of God. Camels are present to show that the birth of Jesus was so important that people from far away came to visit the newborn Jesus. Dogs are sometimes shown because they could have accompanied shepherds that also came to visit the newborn Jesus. A tabby cat is sometimes shown in the manger near Jesus because the cat’s purring could have been soothing to the newborn child. A peacock is sometimes shown perched atop the stable. At the time of Jesus’ birth, peacocks were a symbol of immortality.
During this Christmas season, may we be reminded of the importance God has placed on all his creations, especially animals. May we be reminded to always treat his creations with caring, kindness, and compassion.

This is Rango! He is a 6 year old mix breed with a fantastic personality! He loves to play and he can even do tricks. He knows how to sit, shake hands, lay down, and even speak!

Rango needs a good home. He does have significant allergies that will need to be treated over his life with possible special food and perhaps even allergy injections (the allergy test is currently pending).

Contact our staff with questions! Video of his tricks in the comments.

Blackie
Many years ago, I met an elderly woman and a little black dog that were a perfect match for each other. She was a lonely widow and he was a little black stray of uncertain ancestry that loved her unconditionally. His name was Blackie. Through most of his life, my interaction with them was limited to routine veterinary care. One day when Blackie was about 14 years old, she brought him in because he had recently developed a bad cough. Through a physical exam and other tests I performed, I diagnosed Blackie with congestive heart failure. I went over treatment options with her and she eagerly agreed to do anything she could for Blackie. With the medication she diligently administered and the strict diet I asked her to put him on, Blackie’s condition improved.
Several months later, she called and said Blackie had died during the night. Blackie’s passing was understandably upsetting for her but what now concerned her was she didn’t have any family nearby or friend to help her with Blackie’s burial. She asked if I would come by her house and help her with that. I went to her house and after I had prepared his grave, she asked me to say “a few words over him” before I proceeded with the burial. Choking back tears, I stuttered a few words which seemed to please her then I finished my task.
I called and checked on her over the next few weeks. Losing Blackie was hard for her and it was obvious she was very lonely. About 6 weeks after Blackie died, she showed up at the clinic with another little black stray of uncertain ancestry. If I hadn’t known better, I would have sworn Blackie’s son was sitting right in front of me. I looked at the chart to see what the pup’s name was and of course it was Blackie.
