Tessa has spent the fall preparing for the Eastern National 4-H Horse Roundup, taking place this weekend in Louisville, Kentucky, with a dynamic demonstration of vaulting. Tessa brought along vaulting tack & lunging equipment and performed a barrel routine as part of her demonstration. She spoke about some of the history of vaulting, warm-up for both the horse & vaulter, and discussed compulsories and freestyle routines. Her demonstration was 12 minutes long.

Tessa placed 4th out of 16 participants from across the nation who were selected to compete at Nationals. Congratulations, Tessa! We are so proud of you!

The vaulters made posters about our two horses who traveled to Regionals and they were quite entertaining. Since you probably can't read the small font, here are the fun facts they listed:

Possum's Favorite Treat: Carrots & German Horse Muffins
Fun Facts: Possum's first career was as a carriage horse; Possum is an escape artist and has let himself out of his stall on numerous occassions; Possum may seem big and brave but he actually has no ability whatsoever to defend himself in the field; Possum is learning to do lower level dressage; Possum is a fearless leader on trail rides (as long as he has a buddy with him!); Possum's biggest fear is cows, but he is learning they are not horse-eating machines; Possum LOVES our littles!

Camelito's Favorite Treat: It's a tie between mangos and German Horse Muffins
Fun Facts: Cam has been with GFV for the past six years; Cam is from the Netherlands and has been on an airplane; Cam is his field's fearless leader; In addition to vaulting, Cam competes in dressage; Cam's favorite gatorade flavor is lemonade (NOT lemon lime, and it's verrrry hard to find); Cam HATES bugs; Cam loves ear scratches; Cam is learning to grow a forelock; Cam hates crowds, clapping, and loud noises in general (but he's learning it's not so bad and was AWESOME at Regionals!)

Possum was such a good boy at Regionals. He carried all ten of our vaulters in at least one individual, pas de deux, or team class and each vaulter earned at least one champion, reserve champion, or blue ribbon on him. Possum scored a "personal best" trot horse score of 7.215 and was Cam's steady-eddy buddy horse throughout the weekend! It's been exactly one year since he joined our club and we love him and all of his silly antics. Happy GFV anniversary, buddy!
