I have a friendly service announcement about dog grooming. I was at the vet the other day and there was a little cavapoo girl in an elizabeth collar and her owner told me their groomer tied bows (with rubber bands) around their dogs ears and cut off the blood supply, and the little dog had to have her ears removed as a result. While bows and bandannas look cute they can strangle your dog if they get caught and bows if not applied correctly can result in cutting off the blood supply to ears.

Ivy update !! A few weeks ago Ivy spent a few weeks with my friend Bobbie Jean who also adopted a high risk doodle last year and helped get Ivy on track with some of her issues. During that time Ivy’s new family came to visit frequently to play with her and get to know each other. Ivy went to her new family last week and here they are pictured today at the lake for a Christmas Eve hike !!! Merry Christmas Ivy we are so proud of your progress !! 🎄🤶🏻

CreekSong families !! We are in need of help with our girl Ivy !! She has been having some behavioral issues and bit her owner this morning as she was trying to manage Ivy and her other dog. We have weighed several options for Ivy - one of which would be to euthanize her - which NO ONE wants - so I wanted to put it out here to see if anyone would be willing do take on her case or has a resource for her. My feeling - all in all is that Ivy is a wonderful and loving dog that is highly trainable - she just needs a family where she is the only dog and the family has a lot of structure and the resources to train and manage her. My good friend in AL is looking for good homes for her cocker retiree Hero and a cockapoo boy that came back to her. Hero is Polka Dot’s boy and also Zoe’s litter mate. He has been neutered and is 3 years old. The cockapoo is a larger boy 30 # his papa is Hero and momma is a standard parti poodle from an “oops litter.” He has also been neutered and is 1 year old. Both boys are a bit shy but warm up once they get to know you and should be the only dog in your family, at least until they feel secure and are acclimated. Tara and I will be planning to meet around Knoxville soon for me to pick these guys up and place them with their new people here in Ohio. If you are interested in either pup please text me. Good morning companions 😉
Yesterday Miss Paisley was surrendered to me by her owner. She is a little scared and in need of learning some manners. Her owner was an elderly lady who did not realize she would grow as large as standard doodles get. She needs to be leash trained and taken on some socializing trips to help her learn to feel more secure as well as being spayed. She was enjoying snuggles in the car but once we got home she was very skittish about a new environment. Of course at some point she will be available for a new family but looking for an active adult situation with no small children.

Miss Ivy has made huge strides in the week I’ve been working with her. She has gone from a confused and anxious girl to a very well adjusted dog that knows a human is the alpha. In her retraining I have given her firm verbal commands and no more counter surfing - anxious barking (actually I could hardly even get her to bark) fearfulness around strangers or jumping on the furniture. She has responded very well to her retraining and learning new commands. We have gone on several socializing trips and she’s done amazingly well. I have also done little annoying things like give her little pokes - tugged on her ears and made sure to cut infront of her when we are walking through the house - these are all things to retrain her and teach her who the boss is as well as teach her not react to things that are unexpected. Today she is getting spayed and once she has recuperated she will be ready to move into her new family. It is important that she goes to a home with strong alpha roles because if you’re afraid you will hurt her feelings by being firm with her then she will revert back to her old obbessive/dominant behavior. Herding breeds are an entirely different type dog than your average cocker spaniel and they require structure. While she has been here with me she has been delightful. Meet Ivy - she is our new girl in need of rehabilitation - her owner gave her a summer cut as her coat needs daily maintenance. She is a 1.5 year old sheepadoodle and her family had trouble working with her big personality. She has some fear based barking issues and needs a little socializing. As a herding breed she needed an apha role model to teach her boundaries. Herding breeds instinctually want to have dominion over other creatures so having a strong alpha human is very important. I will work with her over the next few weeks to teach her proper boundaries and take her on some outings to help her be more socialized and understand how to behave in public. Her appointment to be spayed is scheduled - then we will be looking for the right family. Since she’s been here I have found her to be very sweet and responsive to a new point of view. She is a very affectionate girl and loves to please.
