🎇 On July 4, many animals become startled or frightened by the noise of fireworks. This may cause them to flee from familiar environments and people, and sadly become lost.

🔖 Ensure they are wearing their tags and that their microchips are current with correct contact information. New technology includes GPS collars and geo location tags.

🙉 Provide safe zones and sound buffers indoors to minimize stress.

🐕‍🦺 If they must go outside, they must be on a leash.

Quick PSA: During the Fourth of July holiday, and the days leading up to the start of celebrating with noisy fireworks, scores of pets run away from the sights and sounds, making the day after Independence Day the busiest of the year for animal hospitals and shelters. Please do your due diligence. And if you feel as though your pet may need medication to help them relax during firework season, now is the time to speak with your veterinarian!

Fertilizers can contain ingredients that dogs find tasty, but they can be very irritating to the gastrointestinal tract. In large quantities, they can cause severe vomiting, diarrhea, and even neurological signs, such as weakness/pain in the back legs, uncoordinated walking, and tremors. Smaller exposures usually have more self-limiting signs. Some fertilizers also contain various insecticides and additives which can have additional concerns.
