Today, our little Fancy Pants went to the Rainbow Bridge. Fancy, about 14, arrived as a nameless stray in April, with little sight, as well as several elderly dog problems, which we dealt with. We named her Fancy Pants, because, when she was outside in the walkway, she pranced like a puppy. Today, she had 8 seizures, and was unable to stay on her feet at all. She knew she was loved; we hope that whoever dumped her sees this, and that they know she was well cared for and loved by all of us. A huge character in a tiny body. We sure will miss this precious little face.

Let's talk about this photo. It's cute, except it's not. I see a dog who cannot get up without telling the child to get off. How do you think a dog is going to do that?

The 7 Golden Toddler Dog Rules:
#1: If a dog walks away from you, you DO NOT FOLLOW.
#2: Always leave room for the dog to walk away from you.
---that right there is 90+% of dog bites eliminated---
#3: We do not climb on the dog.
#4: We do not grab or pull on the dog.
#5: We do not hit or throw anything at the dog.
#6: We do not touch the dog's food.
#7: We do not go into the dog's kennel.

I promise these are not overly difficult concepts for littles, nor will they rob a kid of their bond with the family dog. It will deepen that bond, while keeping everyone safe.

"Oh, it looks like Moose is walking away from you. She is saying she wants a break. Let's play with this instead!"

"It's Moose's dinner time! Let's give her space to enjoy her yummies."

"That is Moose's room(kennel) and only she is allowed to go in there."

"If Moose wanted a break, could she walk away from you right now? No she really couldn't. Let's move away from the play house. You can keep playing but now she can leave when she wants a break."

In conclusion, ***parent your child or your dog will do it for you, and you will not like how they do it.***

It's here! It's here! The July/August schedule is here!

We have a class section on Monday mornings that is open so if you have puppies under the age of 6 months, if you need a Level 1 or Scent class and evenings don't work for you, or maybe you're interested in a walking or recall class, let me know in the comments!

Classes will begin the second week in July and run for 6 weeks for $135 total! See class descriptions below for more info and message us here or email [email protected] to register!

Level 1 Manners & Life Skills - Learn the basic cues including sit, down, stand, stay, touch, coming when called, and on-leash walking while also tackling problem behaviors like jumping, barking, food bowl manners, and resource guarding.

Level 2 Manners & Life Skills - Take the basics learned in Level 1 to the next level with longer stays, more focused walking inside and out (weather permitting), working through higher level distractions while learning new tricks to show your friends every week! This class is FUN with lots of games and new challenges to help your dog become more confident!

Intro to Scent Work - In Intro to Scent Work you will learn basic scent theory while playing fun games with your dog! We will build your dog's drive and teach them to use their nose independently using food and introducing scent. This is a great intro class for those looking to learn about competition scent work, antler shed hunting, or fun games to wear your dog out on rainy days!
