Wildly impressed with this place. My wife and I have gone to a few places now for our hedgehog Eugene and Ness is by far the most knowledgeable about hedgehogs. They clearly knew how to handle him and pick him up. Just as well they were very aware of possible hedgehog diseases and knew exactly what kind of care he needed in-office to keep him comfortable. They were smart enough to touch and coax him lightly, and give him somewhere to burrow under when he was scared. The little things really show at this place, and made us comfortable leaving Eugene with them for check-ups. Eugene ended up having a cancerous growth which they identified quickly and removed, and now he's doing fantastic in recovery! So thankful to have Doctor Ness and all his staff to advise us with our exotic hedgehog.

If you have reptiles, this is the place to go! Everyone on the staff was absolutely wonderful and did everything they could to help me with an egg bound gecko. They were able to offer diagnostics AND treatment that helped my gecko finally pass her eggs.

I have finally found my reptile vet, and I am so, so happy!

Miss Ma’am

Dr. Ness and his amazing staff are all professional and kind. Jessica is the best. She makes sure to answer all your questions, regardless of how silly they may be. Her and Dr. Ness never rush through your visit and take the time to be thorough. They treat my beardie like he’s one of their family members. They’re gentle with him and patient with me. Thank you all for everything you do. We appreciate you!

Food enrichment: “Treat kabobs” can be offered by skewering fresh or dried fruits and vegetables using a commercial stainless steel kabob or a strip of leather. This provides an opportunity for birds to obtain these food items outside of the food dish—encouraging a variety of natural behaviors including foraging, climbing, and tearing.

LOST BABY BIRD! ADDISON, IL

On Saturday 5/18/2024, our 3 1/2 month old White Fronted Amazon, Riddler, flew out of an open door my son had accidentally left open, and escaped. He makes a squeaky noise almost like a clicker, was hand raised so he is very people friendly. He has a blue ID band on his left leg, his ID is PS###x. I will provide the complete band information when contacted. Please contact with any info: [email protected]

Please share and help get this sweet baby back home!

Please meet Dr. Wong, a new member of the Ness Exotic DVM team….
Dr. Yvonne Wong was born in Hong Kong and spent a portion of her childhood living in Chinatown before moving to the suburbs of Chicago. She didn’t grow up having pets but spent a good deal of time trying to take care of any wildlife that came her way. Dr. Wong graduated as a doctor of veterinary medicine from the University of Illinois where she spent the majority of her time either in the Wildlife Medical Clinic or doing shelter work for small mammals like rabbits and guinea pigs. She once fostered 20 guinea pigs in her home!

Dr. Wong served as one of the Wildlife Medical Clinic’s fundraising chairs while also serving as the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians student chair. During her breaks, she would assist with research projects and medical procedures at Brookfield Zoo. Dr. Wong has an interest in surgery and diagnostic imaging and recently obtained a certification in soft tissue ultrasonography. Her hope is to obtain her certification in echocardiography by 2025 and then further her training in diagnostic imaging.

Having been connected to her Chinese roots, Dr. Wong is fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin. Her struggles as an immigrant have strengthened her love of shelter medicine and helping homeless pets find their forever home. She is a proud member of Bunnies United Network (BUN) and NAWS Humane Society. Outside of work, Dr. Wong has two Persian cats (Dewey and Lydie) and two rabbits (Coraline and Risotto) – all of which she adopted through organizations she was/is involved in. One of her favorite hobbies is gardening and composting to reduce her carbon footprint. She has recently started raising worms and isopods for composting reasons too.
