This little space that I’ve lived in for 6 years has served me so well and given me a safe haven to heal my heart and mind. During my time here, I have seen breathtaking sunsets, big beautiful moons, the fog rolling into the valley from the oceans and incredible rainstorms.

And this evening, as I packed up the remainder of my belongings, It’s almost as if Sõl dropped in to bid me farewell and and gave me the opportunity to gaze upon his magnificence one last time from this view point and to express my gratitude to him and our incredible Mother Earth.

It’s off to new adventures from here and hopefully my next little place will prove to be just as healing, comfortable and provide as much or maybe even more of a sanctuary than this place has been . . . one thing for certain, there’s a hellava lot less stairs in the new place, and a kitchen to boot, so we’re off to a great start! 😆🥰👋🏼🙏🏼

We’re doing all we can to & now to too before the LA Zoo kills them too.
They deserve room to roam, others of their kind to be with and form relationships with. They deserve to be as free as theyey can after an entire life of imprisonment.

They have done nothing to harm anyone, but theyey have awesomervrd life In prison.

Please keep them in your thoughts, send them good energy and see them, with me, happy and FREE in beautiful sanctuaries. 🙏🏼💖💫

Konstantine Anthony - our guy for LA Supervisor! Why? First off, he actually cares about Billy (and wants him in sanctuary!) and all of our nonhuman cousins, both wild and living in our homes and on our streets. He has shown up at our zoo events and for the rodeo ban. Animal rights is actually one of his platform categories: he has a plan to reform our broken shelter system and establish an oversight Animal Care Board to better care for our animal community.

Because humans too: he actually cares and he actually knows, often first hand, the issues that are impacting our city and county; he  knows what people with physical, mental, and economic challenges face. He has actually held real-life jobs such as working full-time as an Uber driver and trying to make ends meet; and he has actually been homeless living in his car several times when they didn’t meet. As a founding member of Mobile Workers Alliance, he has worked for fair pay and employee benefits. He has been a SAG-AFTRA member since 2006, and a member of SEIU 2015 since 2019. He fought the LA County Board of Supervisors’ attempts to legalize the unconstitutional imprisonment of our unhoused residents suffering from mental health issues. He is - look it up. And he actually knows about advocating for people and animals as an elected officially, serving as mayor and city councilmember for Burbank. And he takes no corporate campaign money!

Over a year ago, then Councilmember Paul Koretz filed a Motion to move Billy the elephant from the Los Angeles Zoo where he has been languishing for 34 of his 38 years to sanctuary. In November 2022 the Los Angeles City Council’s Personnel, Audits and Animal Welfare Committee voted unanimously in favor of the terms of the Motion. Shortly after, on Dec 5,  the LA Times published this board editorial urging City Council to approve the Motion.

And yet, a year later, Billy remains behind the iron gates and electrified fences of the Los Angeles Zoo, still trapped in a space far far too small, stil walking with painful steps on hard packed soil, still suffering psychological distress as evidenced by his incessant head bobbing.

Shame on the zoo, shame on City Council for not acting yet, and shame on those who visit a facility where Billy suffers for their momentary entertainment.

Please join us as we demand that the Los Angeles Zoo release Billy, the male Asian elephant, to a sanctuary!
In 2023, the campaign to release Billy the Asian elephant from the Los Angeles Zoo, where he's been imprisoned since 1989, entered its 20th year. As the years go by, Billy suffers further physical and mental decline. Both the LA Zoo and the Los Angeles City Council have the power to give him his freedom. Let’s kick this campaign up a notch for Billy!

WHERE TO MEET:
In the plaza in front of the zoo entrance at noon.
5333 Zoo Drive, Los Angeles, CA
WHAT TO BRING: Some signs will be provided but we welcome handmade ones as well. Megaphones.

Billy, age 38 has been held at the zoo for 34 years. Billy was captured in Malaysia as an infant and is being held in conditions that are not meeting his physical, social or psychological needs as evidenced by his continued stereotypical head bobbing. These facts were clearly established by a court case several years ago.
Many people do not know that zoos, circuses, marine parks, and other outdated entertainment venues are not happy or healthy places for animals. They live in unnatural habitats that are too small to meet their needs. Often, like Billy, they exhibit the symptoms of stress, depression and trauma.

Join our protests and help us make Billy a happy elephant in a sanctuary! !
