First and foremost, we celebrate and reflect on the work of a great Civil Rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr. Today, and everyday, we stand with those who have been victims of hate or intolerance. At PetProGo, we do not tolerate racism. We hope that one we can see a change in our country we so desperately need.

There are SO MANY holiday dangers.

(Last week, we shared holiday safety tips for your cat. Head back a few posts to check those out!)

Our top safety tips for your dog this holiday season:

🍗 Keep 'em away from cooked bones! Cooked bones can splinter in your dog's stomach and cause very serious harm.

🥧 As a matter of fact, keep them away from most holiday foods. Holiday foods tend to be fatty or sugary. Plus, ingredients like onion and garlic are always around too! These are all toxic to our pups.

💡 Over the holidays, electrical cords from decorations are likely in new spots that your pup isn't used to. Make sure they aren't a tripping hazard AND make sure your pup isn't tempted to chew on them.

🧣 Playing dress up is super fun for us but not always our pets. Keep any sweaters, scarves, hats, or whatnots on for a limited amount of time. And always, ALWAYS supervise to make sure they don't become a safety risk.

Ah, the holiday season 😆

If you've got a kitty around, there are important things to keep in mind when decorating, hosting, or cooking.

Here are our top tips:

🎀 Ribbons & tinsel are a cat's absolute favorite. When decorating your tree or presents, opt for something else. Why? If ingested, these guys can cause serious harm including intestinal blockage!

🎄The Christmas tree is a kitty cat hotspot. How could they resist? Use plastic ornaments to keep your cat from swatting down breakable ones.

💐 So many plants & flowers are toxic to cats. Poinsettias, holly, mistletoe, lilies, and amaryllis are all especially dangerous.

🕯️ Open flames can be really tempting to a curious kitty. Make sure you're monitoring your cat 24/7 or better yet, opt for fake candles!

This week is National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week so we wanna share some of the best ways to support your local shelter!

1️⃣ ADOPT! This is a big one. Not only are you supporting the shelter, but you're ALSO saving a life 🐾

2️⃣ DONATE! They've got so many pets to care for. And all of that takes $$$$

3️⃣. VOLUNTEER! To give every pet proper care & attention, they truly need all hands on deck.

4️⃣ SUPPORT ONLINE! Can't do any of the above? Spread the word online! Like, follow along, share with others. The power of the internet is REAL!

5️⃣ SHOP THEIR WISHLIST! Most shelters have wishlists (some even have theirs on Amazon) that you can shop from. This ensures they get the exact supplies they need.

6️⃣. GET CRAFTY! There are a lot of linens needed at the shelters - blankets, cage curtains, etc. Check in with your shelter to see what you can make for them.

7️⃣. FOSTER! Can't commit to adopting? Fostering is a pivotal part of running a shelter. Take care of a pet temporarily while they're lookin' for their forever home.
