We had a great turnout for our annual ACVO Service Dog Exams! Every May, ACVO members provide complimentary screening eye exams for service and working animals. We get the honor of doing an exam to making sure these hard working dogs get to keep working and assisting their owners. Special thanks to Epicur for sponsoring this event as well

This happy boy is Jack! Jack is coming up on 2 years since Dr. Tolar performed an enucleation (surgical removal of the eye). His presenting problem was a corneal perforation or a full thickness laceration. This can be due to trauma and occurs when an injury penetrates all layers of the cornea, causing the globe (eyeball) to rupture. This can be very painful for our pets! In Jack’s case, enucleation was the best option and the updates we’ve gotten from his mom have expressed that he is doing great! Removing an eye can sound scary at first, but our pets are resilient and they do very well! This gives them a chance at a more comfortable and happy life than keeping a diseased eye. This is just one of the ocular issues that we can treat with enucleation.

Dr. Tolar will be out of the office for the next few weeks. This week we will have shortened hours. The next 2 weeks we will be holding normal hours, with alternate board-certified ophthalmologists that Dr. Tolar hand picked to see our appointments. Please keep this in mind when reaching out to us!
