Over the years at SAK9, I have worked as the owner to cultivate my understanding and preferred use of ecollars. Personally, for me, there are 2 type of dogs that benefit from early ecollar use in training. But, I do want it to be clear, we train 90% of dogs without an ecollar. Our training starts with clicker, food and a lead. Where it goes from there is determined by the dog as we are resolved to train the specific dog in front of us each time. Levi here is a fantastic example of a dog that benefits from low level stim being paired with basic commands to improve his confidence, certainty and motivation. Nervous dogs like this are the only kind of dog I will put an ecollar on during the training process, and even then as you see at the end of this video we don’t want the dog relying on being puppeted by a hand held device. Some luring work with Ms Luna. This was how we warmed up at Cabela’s, then we did less handler help and walked around the store. She ended her outting auto sitting every time I stopped!

When creating that “go everywhere” family pet it is so important to work their obedience in and out of the household. This can be done in the backyard, front yard, park, or even a dog-friendly store.

Bitsy had a really really hard time around the smallest of distractions when she first got here. If someone even walked by us training during week 1, she would lose all ability to focus on training. Look at her go now!
We ended up having her owners upgrade her from a kick start board and train(2 weeks) to a full board and train (4 weeks). Shortly after the 2 week mark she finally had a break through session and she’s been making rapid progress since.
At SAK9, we tailor our programs to your dog and we are upfront and honest about the results we are getting, (I’m a little bit of a perfectionist😂 and want you to get your money’s worth!). As Larry Krohn said “You cannot change a dog’s life in 2 weeks.” This was definitely true for Bitsy here! But now that we’ve had more time to work with her, she’s doing awesome around distractions in comparison to where she was at.
2 week board and trains are fantastic for super solid dogs that need socialization and to learn the basics - but you must follow through and do the rest of the work once the dog is home. 4 week board and trains allow us to proof the dog and send them home at a maintainable level, which can be easier for our clients. We have slots available in August!
