These will be the last pictures of Hunny's pups before they start leaving next Monday. They're 7 week sold today and this week is a busy one with last shots, worming, baths, vet exam and of course the 4th of July. I got 5 pictures and a video I believe.

Danny is installing the central air/heat for the indoor kennel this morning. That should help the electric bills. It's a smaller version of the one we put in the house last year and also has a high efficiency rating. Been a long time coming but should heat and cool the kennel room, my work room and my office when we get the east wall and doors up so I can use those rooms again. That end of the building was attached to the old 2 story farm house we tore down. It's taken a lot of years to save back enough puppy money to finally do all this. I bought the new roofing supplies 2 years ago LOL. I will have a new roof as soon as that wall and doors are done. I may have a couple of wall heaters (good shape and good working order) and a free standing heating and cooling unit to s e l l. Possibly a fairly new garage heater as well. If anyone is interested in any let me know and I'll get pictures of them and p r i c e s. All are remote controlled.

Mother Nature is being disagreeable. It's been raining all morning and forecast showing it stopping about 10. Since 10 AM it cut loose pouring and 40 minutes later still pouring so I guess chores will be late this morning.

UPDATE:

So far Fancy has 2 boys and 1 girl. She may be done and may not. She tends to carry pups in her rib area and sometimes when I think she's done I go out and find another 1 or 2 pups. That said I THINK she's done but I'm going to wait a little while to see for sure. I'll give her an oxytocin shot about 5:30 and an antibiotic. I do that with all my moms to make sure they're finished, cleaned out and the cervix closes. I lost one mom a few years ago to pyometra when her cervix didn't close. Since then it's been standard practice here to give an oxytocin shot after delivery and 3 days of antibiotics. 'Nuff said for now. Pictures coming later when I know she's done. One boy is black dapple and the other boy and little girl are both chocolate based creams like Fancy's dad.

It was a really busy morning for me today. Fancy appears to be in labor and I moved her to a whelping kennel. I guess my estimated due date for her was much better than Katrina's (who went 8 days ahead of my estimate). Today is Fancy's projected due date. She's not eating, she's panting, belly is dropped and she nested her papers so I expect there will be more babies before the day is over. It's hard to see in her pictures but she's a smooth red dapple..

I'm going to start with my newest upcoming litter that is being created as I type LOL. Fire is visiting Kimba and they should have a litter coming around August 20th. My camera has a small delay between pushing the button and the picture focusing and snapping. I guess the last picture he wants you to know he's not just sitting in the back doing nothing. He jumped up front and "posed" just as the camera snapped the picture LOL.

Katrina's pups are a week old today. All look great as you can see in the pictures. I've been meeting myself coming and going today so I'm going to post pictures and then I'm done for the night. Enjoy the evening and the baby pictures. They actually lined up for the pictures. That doesn't happen often lol.

Under the weather right now. Dr. Said my COPD is exacerbated, most likely by the rain, hot weather, humidity and allergens, so I won't be answering any posts or messages until I feel a little better and can breathe again. The sooner the better!

Just a short update for now on the pups. Katrina's new babies all seem to be thriving. The 2 I'd been concerned about have rounded up with milk and growing along with the other 4. They are the shaded red girl and the blue dapple piebald boy. Both were "ribby" at birth instead of nicely rounded the other 4. They are both looking like little butterballs now like the rest. Katrina looks to have enough milk to feed an army of pups. So far they've not managed to make her look at all deflated between meals.

Hunny's pups are doing great and getting ornerier by the day. Definitely on their way to being full fledged Dachshund puppies. The walk, talk, climb, annoy their mom and think they are contenders in the WWF lol.

Have a great weekend everyone! I hope to be back to "normal" by Monday at the latest (although an hour from now would be better lol).

A small update on the new babies. They're under an infrared heat lamp for a few days until they get their own body heat and the air is on for the other mom to be and Hunny and her older pups. It will throw off color but I managed to get a few pictures of just the babies while Katrina was outdoors going potty. Just a few pattern changes I can see now that they're all dry and mom has cleaned them up from yesterday's arrival to the world :)

The red piebald girl is also dapple.
The chocolate dapple boy is patchwork dapple. He has both dark and light brown base spots on his lighter beige dappling. On any dapple the dark color is their base color (in his case chocolate is the base color). He is what we call minimal dapple, which is when the base color is a lot less than the dapple color instead of the other way around. All the others are the colors and patterns I told you yesterday.

News flash: I was off by a week on Katrina's due date. I had a feeling that was the case the last few days lol. Usually when I estimate the standing heat and due date I get a lot closer. Anyway we'll have more baby pictures later this evening when she's done. She started shortly after I had my lunch today and so far has 1 shaded red girl, 1 black and tan or black brindle boy (he has black in his tan points but at this age I can't tell if it's shading or stripes), 1 black piebald boy, no tan points, and one blue piebald boy, no tan points. She was pushing again just before I ran in for a quick break and I'm heading back out now.

I'll be getting a video of the pups a little later today. for now I will just say that the ones I know are still available are the black male, the black brindle male and the little sable girl. The cream male is pending, the chocolate male is sold and both black girls are sold. The folks who came to meet the sable girl decided she looked too much like their previous Dachshund who passed away so they went with the chocolate male instead.

Another new update. Teagan (smooth black and tan) came in heat yesterday and should be standing for Char (longhair black dapple) by the 11th and would put her due around August 13th. Black or black and tan dapple is a very good possibility for her litter and should have both smooth and longhairs. They're both virgins learning about life together so we shall see what we shall see in August :) I'll try to get someone to hold each of them so I can get current pictures of them to post soon. Char is Cally's great grandson and Teagan is Pistol's great granddaughter. I'll attach pictures of Cally (black and tan dapple) and Pistol (red dapple) for now until I get the pictures of the parents to be.

I know this isn't what you were hoping for. I didn't have time to do individual pictures tonight so I'll get them tomorrow. They just finished nursing and I couldn't keep them separated. They kept piling back up as fast as I tried to get pictures so I gave up and just got some group pictures for now. They all have their eyes open except for the pictures LOL. They're starting to walk now too so they can pile back up faster now that they can see and walk. I'll put a big tub on the washer tomorrow to make sure nobody can walk off the washer while we do pictures. Next week the whelping box will be taken out and they will start eating kibble and drinking water. They'll also get their first nail clipping, first deworming and first shots. Week 4 is full of "firsts" :)

06/03/2024

Puppy pictures will be late today. My camera battery is on the charger and when it's charged I'll get pictures. It may be this evening before I get them posted.

Just a note to let you all know I have no pups right now and none on the way yet. I have 4 litters planned that will be coming when the girls start coming in heat. 2 should be in heat this month but what they should do and what they will do remains to be seen.

I've been missing in action since the last pups left but things have been not so great the past few weeks. My husband had to have a biopsy and we were thrilled when it came back he doesn't have cancer but he does have some issues with his blood they have to run more tests on to see what the cause of that is.

About 5 weeks ago while breeding an outside female for someone, Blitz blew a disk in his back and paralyzed both back legs. I've been treating him since it happened and he's slowly improving. I'm doing light therapy with him now that he's finished his steroid treatments. Last week he was able to stand up on his hind legs for about 1 minute. This morning I took him to the vet to get his hair cut so it's easier to keep him clean. I held his hind quarters up so she could clip the back half. I also had to hold him up so she could clip his tummy. He was able to sit on the table for the rest. After his clip we helped him to stand up on his own by spreading his back legs a little wider than he would normally stand to give him a little wider base for balance. He stood there for a full 5 minutes before he decided he needed to sit back down. He can't walk yet but the ability to be able to stand on his own is wonderful at this point with both hind legs fully paralyzed before treatment started.

I have to make a bigger harness for the cart so he can start using it. He's bigger than Fern so the harness she used doesn't fit him. Once light therapy is done he'll start doing water therapy to help build the muscles back up in his legs and hind quarters. He won't be breeding again until he's fully healed and the vet gives him the ok so the breeding planned for him and Hunny most likely won't happen this time. I doubt he'll be healed up in time for her heat. She'll be bred to Draco (brindle stud).

I did finally name Nita's little girl I kept when she was 8 weeks old. She's about 14 weeks now. Her name is in honor of her great grandpa DePayne's Little Pistol whose birthdays are very close together. She's DePayne's Pistol Packin' Teagan. Yesterday Nita had to say goodbye to her mom and Teagan to her grandma. Derry passed away at home Wednesday night. She was scheduled to be put down at the vet yesterday but I guess she preferred to go at home on her own. She had cancer and it really started spreading fast the past couple of weeks. She was born here and was the last daughter I still had from Pistol and it was really tough to have to say goodbye to her. RIP DePayne's Neatly Sparkling Derringer.

Neat Nita of J-Ron is Sparkle's mom
Sparkle and Pistol were Derry's parents
Derry was DePayne's Nita Pistol's Legacy's mom
Young Nita and Kimba are Teagan's parents
