Before and after.

07/29/2022

It has been a sad last month for Topknot and Tails .We have lost at least 7 of our pet friends due to various health reasons. Even though their loss will be felt for a long time, we are comforted knowing they are no longer suffering .With that said Topknot and Tails is looking to fill those 7 openings. We a looking for pups under 30 lbs. Preferably under a year old .Doodles of the smaller variety must be 6 months or younger .

UPDATE.We have POWER!!!!Tentatively we will be working normal business hours. We are however watching the coming nasty weather. If it’s cold and wet and roads are icy we will not open. Those that have appts will get an early morning call. The rest of the week should go smoothly.Just please excuse the mess while we continue to clean up and prepare for repairs.

11/10/2019

Just a heads up to our clients. There was a fire in a suite next door to us .We did not suffer any fire damage. We did however suffer some water and smoke damage from the wonderful( I don’t mean that sarcastically) guys at Gluckstadt Fire department. We have no power .Until we can get an electrician out to the shop to inspect the wiring we will not be able to truly inspect the damage and clean up.We will be keeping everyone updated .OH PS and PPS the cats are fine .We had them checked out by our vet and they are currently boarding till we can get the shop up and running again.

DOODLES! (And others)

The perfect photo to show how matting happens at the base (or at the skin). So many doodle owners are saddened to hear the only thing I can do with their pups coat is a shave because they thought brushing the top coat was enough. By looking at this dog, you may not see the knots and you may not feel them as you would a knot on the ends of the fur but once it starts its very difficult/ impossible to brush/COMB out... Not to mention it would be cruel to put the dog through. A quick once over will not work for these guys if you want them in a fuzzy coat. You really need to sit down with a metal comb and make sure you can get it through the entire body a couple times a week.

Often times I feel like owners don't believe groomers when they say the dogs has to be clipped. I always hear "I know he/she is matted, but leave as much as you can"... this photo shows, the only way to get UNDER the matting is nothing left.
I promise you, I'd rather not clip your baby naked either! I also don't want to hurt my reputation when the clients go around complaining about how the last groomer "scalped" their dog....But doodles are easily one of the highest maintenance dogs in reference to their coats. The combination of the soft coat of a golden, or aussie, or newf, or wheaten, or whatever they are mixing poodles with these days is a coat that is SO prone to matting. And even more so are the new "double doodles" that i like to call "double maintenance".

I even find some doodles on a regular schedule still need to be clipped once or twice a year (maybe not shaved, but maybe teddy bear length for a fresh start) because after all of the brushing and de-matting, the damaged coat seems to become even MORE likely to matt.
If you like a fluffy pup, you probably need to consider no more than 3-5 week intervals between grooming AND set aside time for regular COMBING at home. A doodle grooming STARTS at $125 (with my service) so make sure you’ve set aside that budget.

Please know, if you bathe your doodle you really need to blow dry and brush out right after. MOISTURE of any kind; be it a bath, rain, swimming, snow etc are all going to amplify matting. And if you know your dog is already matted-- bathing is only going to make it worse! Brush out BEFORE the bath.

AND!!!!! "breeders" who say they can't/shouldnt be clipped and OR not to give them a hair cut until they are 1 year are out of their minds and setting you up for a SAD SAD SAD day when you finally take your pup to the groomer.

Just a reminder.

Price Increase Sept 1,2016

Here at Topknot and Tails, we strive to provide great service at affordable prices. While we strive to keep prices low we also want our prices to be in line with other shops in our area. After some checking we have found that our prices are lower in most shops in our area.Plus with ever increasing cost of supplies ,equipment and insurance we must increase our prices. Most prices will increase bu $5 others may be higher or lower depending on what your current price is,size of your pet ,and the type of haircut they get.

Other changes are as follows:

If your pet is on the schedule to come once a week and they miss more than 2 weeks ,the next appointment will be full price .
If you pet is on the schedule to come every 2-3 weeks, and they miss more than 1 week ,the next appointment will be full price.
Also if you have a pet that comes every 2-3 weeks and you want a haircut each time we will start charging full price.Other options are a bath or a mini groom one time and a hair cut the next. All three are different prices depending on the size and breed of the dog.A bat includes bath and nails.Mini groom includes bath ,nails, face, feet, and tail.
We are turning away potential clients on a daily basis, because of this we will require at least 24 notice if you are not going to be able to make your appointment. We will no longer hold reoccurring appointments if no cancellation notice is given.Your pet will have to wait till the next available appointment. With all this being said we know that things happen that are beyond any control of our own .We just ask that if possible you let us know.
We will also start charging for dematting if your pet is matted. The fee for dematting is $5 for every 15 minutes spent up to one hour.We will not longer demat if it is going to take more than an hour. The hair will have to be cut short .

Mary and I thought it would be a good idea to give a little visual aid .This is to help everyone understand why we stopped taking new clients and started a waiting list. We have recurring appointments .Everyone on the calendars have an appointment that we roll to their next date upon completion of their groom. We have clients that come from once a week to every 16 weeks ,and all time frames in between. We also factor in a few spots to allow us to reschedule current clients in case something comes.Aug,Sept and Oct are full and November is a work in process so we are still in the process of rolling the appointments over.

07/31/2016

For those interested ,we have a waiting list going .If you are interested in becoming a Topknot and Tails client. Please call 6017909108 to be added to the list. With a full schedule of clients with recurring appointments wait times may be lengthy.

We have gotten a lot of messages lately about availability appointments . We are still currently NOT accepting new clients. Any notice of openings will be posted here on our page. We have also received messages about a website and price range .We do not have a website and currently one is not in our future .We quite frankly do not have a whole lot of time to maintain website .We have trouble making even irregular posts to THIS page. As for price range .It varies according to size of dog ,condition of dog ,special requirements. And for advance notice prices we are charging now will be changing as of Sept 1 to put us more inline with what other shops are charging as we are severely under priced for the quality of grooming we provide.

02/23/2016

To those looking for appointments. We are not accepting new clients at this time. New client slots will be filled as the openings become available. Our current client load has us booked solid. To current clients because we are so booked rescheduling will be extremely difficult.

12/19/2014

A few other items that are will be changing .We close at 5:30 PM during the week . Dogs not picked up by 5:30 will have $5 per 15 minutes of being late added to groom.Dogs not picked up by 6:15 will be placed in a crate with water and the doors will be locked. Dog can be picked up next morning .A boarding fee of 50% of groom will be added to groom .This is to cover housing your dog and clean up next morning in case of accidents .

We will be keeping waiting list . With names and phone numbers of people wanting appointments when we start taking new clients again.Openings will be filled in order they are put on the list.

We do have a recommendation for a groomer should you need your dog groomed before we contact you . That name and number will be provided upon request. Before you ask , she is the only one in the Jackson Metro area that we would trust with our own dogs .

Other changes may be added as needed please check back periodically .

12/19/2014

Effective January 1st there will be some changes to they way we have operated in the past.

We are currently unable to take new clients .Out client list has grown tremendously over the last year .As a result we are unable to fit anyone else in .We are hoping this is just temporary .Please stay tuned to Facebook for announcements on availability.

If you are delayed on your way to drop off your dog and will not arrive by 9:30 please call. You will then have an additional 30 minutes to arrive . If you do not call or do not arrive by 10 AM . We will consider your appointment missed and will have to wait for your next appointment. No drop offs later than 10 AM unless requested by the groomer.

We are now requiring at least a 24 hour notice for cancellation. If you do not call within the time frame or do not show a 20% charge will be added to your next grooming .

The ability to just call when you want an appointment is not available anymore . We have so many clients with recurring appointments that open spots aren't as plentiful as they used to be .With that said ,you may have to wait in excess of 2-3 months to see us .If you are able to get in ,make your appointments before you leave.

We will be making and returning calls between 7-9:30 AM and 4-5:30 PM. Any calls received between these two time frames will go straight to voice mail. We will call when your dogs are ready . Please check your messages .This is so we can devote as much time as possible working on getting your dogs finished .
