Taz is looking for a forever home! He’s a sweet little dude who loves to flop and jump. He loves head rubs and lots of attention and is good with other bunnies. He’s not too fond of cats though.

Taz is fully vetted, vaccinated, neutered and microchipped! His adoption fee is only $80!

For an application to adopt or foster Taz or any other bunny we have here, message us or reach out to Operation Bun Bun Rescue!

This momma bun and her babies were dumped outside to die in the wild. Domestic bunnies cannot survive out there. Despite being well over capacity, we took them in because it was their only option.

We desperately need help paying for their vetting and we even more urgently need adopters and foster homes!

We are so full with foster animals, we cannot take in anymore. Please, please consider fostering or adopting a rescued pet- we need you and they need you!

For information on becoming a foster home for bunnies, a guinea pig, kittens or a rooster, please reach out!

If you can adopt a sweet soul, please do. Adoptions and donations are at an all time low. We have fosters who have been with us over a year! Don’t let another day go by where these babies don’t have a forever home ❤

Every dollar adds up! Please spare a buck or two today!

Roscoe is in need of a forever home where he can protect a flock of hens of his own. Do you have hens who need a rooster to guard them? He’s a really good boy and would be a proud addition to your flock ❤

Anyone, anywhere, can access this free bunny education course!

Sometimes, we get surrender requests from owners who truly want to keep their bunnies, but feel they have no other choice except surrender.

Whether it’s a lack of resources or just missing some key husbandry education, they’re often trying their best.

So when we see that a bunny is clearly loved, we jump in to help.

We enroll the owners in our virtual education course, provide supplies, assist with spaying or neutering, and offer 24/7 support for any questions that pop up.

If we don’t step in and offer help, a bunny might lose out on what could be a great home and an already overfull rescue becomes even more crowded.

Bunny ownership can seem difficult, especially when they’re purchased on a whim.

But with the right education, it’s a breeze. And that’s where we come in - helping educate owners looking to surrender and seeing if there’s any way to keep bunnies responsibly in their homes.

Anyone, anywhere, can take our free virtual education course: https://forms.gle/rNTYqNijXz9Qc65i8

And if you donate supplies here with the note “Food Pantry” it goes to our community pet food pantry. The first official Bunny Pet Food Pantry in the country: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/16T1VVSC5VNK5?ref_=wl_share

Sammy is growing quickly and not letting his disability get in the way of what he wants to do!

Sammy is our splayed leg bunny who went to UT emergency within an hour of intake. He's doing great now and is slowly working on becoming available for adoption!

Sammy is an affectionate bunny who loves everyone and is so grateful for the help! We are currently working on resolving some issues related to severe urine scalding that occurred prior to intake and scooting around, but we think he'll be better in no time!

Sammy is seeing our vet next week for his recheck. If everything looks good, he'll be started on his vaccine. If not, then we'll continue to medicate, treat, and ensure he gets closer to getting better soon!

Sammy will be available for adoption once he has been cleared for his routine work including vaccine and neuter! We'll update as we get closer!

We need to raise $348 for an unexpected emergency visit on Tuesday. This puts us behind on our other appointments so we need to get back on track! Any amount helps!

Tandy’s loss has taken a toll in every way imaginable.

We are so sorry, little friend.

Tandy passed in my lap while I stroked his little face and told him what a good boy he was and told him he was handsome and a sweet little piggy. I made sure he knew he was loved in his last moments. It was a peaceful passing.

Immediately after he left us, I needed to feed the baby squirrel we have here that I’m rehabbing. I’m trying to process that juxtaposition of laying one animal to rest, then picking one up to sustain its life.

It was the ultimate example of what animal rescue looks like. It never stops. There is no time to rest or grieve. One died, and fourteen more still have needs to meet. Tandy at least died in a home where he was loved and cared for. He was one of the lucky ones.

There are countless other animals like him who have been abandoned and die alone outside in pain, scared. Like what would have happened to the three dumped bunnies we just took in from Hayesville only days ago. A mom and her two babies dumped and left to die like sweet Snowy, who was so far gone when we tried to save her she had to be euthanized. Domestic animals don’t survive the wild.

In the last few weeks we have had to say goodbye to two of our rescued fosters. We had to have legs amputated off two cats who were left to die when humans abandoned them.

We’ve had to treat open wounds, eye infections, respiratory infections. The suffering we witness and try to heal is unimaginable, and often unbearable.

Every animal that we encounter is loved like one of our very own. To see them in pain, worse, to say goodbye forever, is heartbreaking.

I did not anticipate having to dig a tiny grave last night.

Any support is appreciated. We are devastated.

After a major stasis battle, Tandy said goodbye last night.

Tandy hadn't been feeling well for a few days. He suddenly took a turn for the worst yesterday and he was brought to our vet.

Upon arrival, he was rushed back for oxygen and heat therapy where he stayed fighting for over an hour. Xrays showed that he hadn't eaten anything in awhile and was filled with gas: the byproduct of not eating that causes stasis.

Vet staff attempted to syringe feed Critical Care, but he was not able to swallow. They gave him a 20% chance of survival, probably less. They weren't sure if he would even survive the drive home if he left.

We were notified by his foster last night that he was brought home, but he promptly passed when brought inside to settle in.

Foster homes are not always meant to be forever homes, but we ensure that they are treated as such to make sure pets like Tandy know that they are loved and cared for like family no matter what!

We never plan for these tragedies to happen, but we know Tandy was loved by many and are glad that his last several months were filled with consistency, love, and attention that our timid friends desperately need after a life of neglect.

Bare with us as we grieve Tandy's unexpected loss.

File this under things I thought I'd never have to say. But here we are.

If you find a bird that has hit a building/window and is unconscious, the next thing you do should not be to pour a bucket of water on the unconscious bird. This hawk is now waterlogged in addition to the stress this caused and whatever injuries he may have had before.

This post isn't to shame anyone but if one person thinks this is what you should do, then other people think it too.

If you find a bird unconscious after a suspected window strike, simply scoop it up into a ventilated box so it is safe while you call for assistance.

We are feeling a great deal of loss , little Tandy was taken to the vet today for an emergency, he stopped eating was just not looking good this morning. They took an X-ray and determined he had GI Stasis , GI Stasis is a potentially fatal condition in rabbits and guinea pigs where the digestive system slows down or stops completely. When the intestinal tract stops moving, bad bacteria begins to release gas byproducts in the intestines causing painful bloating. We knew his chances were minimal, we brought back home before he passed , good bye little Tandy Man , we love you ❤️

Little Tandy isn’t feeling well , he stopped eating and became very lethargic over the last day . We got him to our veterinarian in Knoxville, the X-rays show he has an excessive amount of gas , which doesn’t look good . His breathing is weak and he’s on oxygen. They will do everything they can here with supportive care then we take him home and hope for the best , any contributions to his bill can be made directly to Bun Bun Rescue

Can we be blunt? We’re gonna be blunt and maybe a little mean.

We get a lot of calls from people who, intentionally or otherwise, kill baby birds and their parents because they’re scared of them. This isn’t okay.

Songbirds are dedicated parents and— just as you would if a giant predator a thousand times your size kept hanging out next to your newborn’s crib— they’ll try to defend their young when we disturb them. This mostly involves simply swooping toward us. It’s usually a bluff attack that doesn’t actually make contact, because songbirds know they can’t win a fight against a human.

It’s unlikely that a songbird will actually make contact with your body, and it’s even less likely that it will actually hurt you. If a two-ounce bird brushes your scalp with its beak, you will probably barely feel it. Songbirds simply aren’t capable of seriously injuring humans.

If you have bird parents guarding a nest near your home or business, you have no choice but to tolerate them for a few weeks until the young are grown. Birds can’t find relocated nests and wildlife rehabilitators don’t have the resources or legal authority to take eggs or young simply because you don’t want them there. Removing a an active native bird’s nest is a federal crime.

Use the back door if you can. Hang out inside instead of on your porch for a couple of weeks. The lives of baby birds matter more than your very temporary inconvenience.

Today is National Check The Chip Day! It's a reminder to all pet owners of the importance of microchipping their beloved pets — and to make sure each pet's microchip information is up-to-date. In the event a pet is lost or stolen, a microchip greatly increases the chance that they will be reunited with their family, but a microchip only works if its registration information is accurate!
