Atlas is a super sweet boy and is currently with The Arkansas Pet Savers. He has a really bad break on his back hip and is going to need surgery. The Arkansas Pet Savers have him scheduled for surgery tomorrow in Tennessee, but desperately need help with covering the cost of surgery. The vet just informed them that he is also heartworm positive. It is going to cost around $1200 for the surgery + the cost of heartworm treatment. If anyone is able to help in any way, please feel free to donate. Please make the memo for Atlas. I would like to start off by saying that this will be a long post. It doesnt matter what I try to do for the dogs at the shelter, I am always going to be the bad person in someones eyes. Im sorry that some of you feel that certain people shouldnt be ticketed or that we should pick and choose who has to abide by the city ordinances. Im sorry that some of you dont know the whole story and choose to believe everything you read on the internet or make assumptions about what you think goes on. I have a job to do just like everyone else. This means I have a boss to answer to and also the city council. Am I being pushed to consider euthanasia due to overcrowding, yes. Am I firmly against it and do I refuse to take part in it, yes. I do work with other rescues to try and move these dogs, but everyone is having issues, just like us. Some people feel that I should just let the dogs run free if they are running loose with no consequences to the owner. If I were to do this, I get in trouble with my boss and the council. If I pick them up and write a ticket, I get bashed by keyboard warriors. If I post on here that we need dog food donations, I get accused of starving the dogs. I have been fighting for an indoor facility for these dogs since I started almost 3 years ago. Noone cares about this, they just want a reason to complain. I can count on 1 hand the number of people who have actually tried to help me. With all that being said, if you feel like I am not competent enough to do my job correctly then by all means, please come do my job for a week, attend a council meeting, deal with calls and messages at all hours, and people showing up at your personal residence and tell me how I can do it better.
