Question of the hour: Why do some breeders price Merle’s higher than Tri/Bi colors?

I’ll be honest with you guys… because, well a lot of you are like my extended family. You love on our dogs and follow us with true loyalty... I genuinely value you and your friendship. On the worst of days, we can share our love for our furry family members. So thank each of you.

Ok, so, today/yesterday I had someone contact me by text (no name offered) to question my puppy pricing. Basically it ending in accusing me of not being a good person/breeder because our dogs aren’t “all the same price.” Well, I’ll tell you all, that I do realize that some breeders, specifically those that show, do offer all of their dogs at the same price. The higher end. We, as well as many other smaller family farms (that still offer health tested, well bred dogs), price our sweet Tri/Bi colors a little less, only due to the fact that they’re harder to find homes for. They really aren’t any less valuable!! I can’t guarantee you that much. A lot of people want a flashy Merle and not the “plain” Tri/Bi color dog. If they were all the same price, I’d hardly ever find a home for a Tri/Bi unfortunately.

The funny thing to me is, this person only wanted a Merle and ONLY wanted blue eyes. Funny they have requirements that no ethical breeder can guarantee. (Eye color can change for over a year.) They want the top sought after dog, and I’m sure they know that, but want to badger me on my prices? I don’t get it. They want to judge a dog by color but I can’t price them by color? 🤔

I’ve priced puppies before and thought to myself, “ok that’s out of my budget currently, but it’s their dog, why would I question that?” It’s like going to buy a car and berating someone for their price. It’s their stuff! If you don’t like it, move on to one you do. Does this make sense?

I’m a little defeated to say the least. Upset that a person who’s never even spoken to me, basically accuses me of not being an ethical breeder. If they only knew my heart for my dogs. If they only saw all that goes into their care. Dogs aren’t cheap. Dog food, vet care, progesterone testing or AI when needed. Emergencies (God forbid) SMH. I do all I can to do right by these dogs. I love them and each puppy that leaves me, leaves with 8 weeks of my love and a lifetime of my thoughts of them. I want the best for them always but they simply aren’t free to raise. I have to ask a fee for them. And some of you can vouch for me, have I not sold some of you a dog cheaper than the original asking price? Yes! And that because you’ve been kind, courteous, and I could tell you’d be a great home for my baby! Kindness gets you further with me than anything else. I wish all people could practice that. Heck if you can’t get along with me, I feel for you. I try to be kind and love everyone. Know why? Cause He said to. Anyway…love yall….just venting.
