2023 Bay Filly

"Betty Jo" is a gorgeous filly by Two Id Hombre and out of SM Sister Sledge. She is double bred Two Id Bartender and Doc Bar, a cow/rope cross that has worked really well in our program.

Her sire, Two Id Hombre, was Top 10 in the L2 Heading and placed 4th in the HPI Heeling. We have a yearling filly by Hombre that is absolutely gorgeous and we think this filly will turn out the exact same way. Hombre is by Two Id Sweet Jack, AQHA Performance Champion with 330.5 AQHA points and Superiors in Heading, Heeling, and Calf Roping. Two Id Bartender was an AQHA World Champion and Superhorse contender. Hombre is out of a daughter of Genuine Hombre, who had over 500 AQHA points and was an AQHA Performance Champion with 6 Superiors in Calf Roping, Heading, Heeling, Reining, and Working Cowhorse. Genuine Hombre was the 1997 AQHA Junior All-Around Champion and an AQHA Reserve World Champion in Jr Calf Roping.

SM Sister Sledge was a handy horse on the farm and my personal riding horse. We raised Sister. My parents bought her sire, Two Id Hat, from Pitzer ranch as a weanling. Two Id Hat had a Superior in Heeling and was shown by my mother in Am Reining. He was a 2x World Show Qualifier. Her maternal grandsire, Docs Bay, was a NCHA money earning and producing son of Doc Wilson, the NCHA Hall of Fame son of Doc Bar. Penny In My Hat, another Hat/Docs Bay mare we raised, was Circuit Champion at Tulsa this year in the Am Calf Roping. Several of Sister's full siblings have made awesome rope horses, including my high school breakaway mare.

This has been an amazing family for us and we cannot say enough good things about them. Betty Jo should make a really nice horse with a great mind and a lot of cow sense. She has a stacked pedigree of performance horses top and bottom. Located in Southern Illinois.

Watch Him Two

"Gabby Whittaker" is a 3 year old bay AQHA gelding. He is kind and sweet with a puppy dog personality. He moves so soft you feel like you're floating. Would make an awesome rope or ranch riding horse. He has all the elegance and gentleness that the Two Eyed Red Bucks are known for. He has around 60 days riding and has been lightly patterned on the barrels. As a yearling and two year old he was hauled to IL Ranch shows and shown in 2 and under gelding halter. Talk about a sweetheart! It's easy to see how his sire got his name. Such a gentle little c**t and as sweet as sugar. We are calling this guy "George." Can you guess who he's named after?

Welcome to the world little man!

We are so excited for the newest addition to Mead Ranch! This sweet, dun stud c**t is by AQHA Reserve Versatility Champion Two Id Sweet Buck and out of SM Kate. Kate is a full sister to several amateur and youth world show qualifiers and a daughter of a two-time world show qualifer. There is so much athleticism and mind in this cross, and the color is just a bonus! Can't wait to see what this little guy accomplishes in the future.

So excited to see Favorable Intentions sitting in the number 2 spot on this list! FI is the sire of our young stallion Mr. Best Intentions, aka WiFi. WiFi's mother is a granddaughter of Mr. Joes Song, one of the best crosses on FI, as proven by this new data. We are so excited for the caliber of rope horse he will be able to produce with our Two Id Hat mares. Two Id Hat himself had a Superior in Heeling, an impressive accomplishment when the only way of tracking a horse's roping ability was through AQHA points. We are so grateful to have this young stallion on our ranch and for the new opportunities available to us to show him in the future. The next few years are going to be fun!

Before the last 12 months, databases like the American Quarter Horse Association’s QData could only track rope horse earnings at judged shows, where pedigrees were verified by judges to ensure rampant cheating wasn’t fudging the numbers. But in 2022, the AQHA teamed up with the Riata Buckle Stallion Incentive Program to infuse some $2 million into the recorded earnings of rope horses.

And, for the first time, the AQHA relied on 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 magazine’s indexing of the horses the Top 15 rode at this year’s Wrangler National Finals Rodeo to funnel another $1.1 million from rodeo’s big show into QData, shifting the all-time earnings list dramatically for team roping horses.

But who cares? Why should ropers care if this type of money is tracked on their horses? After all, they’re roping for millions in Las Vegas and Fort Worth, and you can’t ride papers…can you?
