Kicking off Veterinary Receptionist Week by introducing two of our newest team members—Amanda & Gio!

Amanda is a teal-loving animal enthusiast and proud foster fail to Binky the Doodle, who inspired her vet care journey. In her free time? She’s probably napping and dreaming of rescuing all the animals.

Gio loves green, getting lost in a good book, and collecting vintage vinyls. She shares her home with two rescues—Meeko the cat and Yanny the pup!

We’re so lucky to have these two on board. Stay tuned as we introduce more of our amazing team throughout the week!! šŸ¾ā¤ļø

Day 6 of Dog Bite Prevention Week: Why Dogs Bite
Not all dog bites come from ā€œaggressiveā€ dogs—many come from dogs who are scared, stressed, or simply trying to protect themselves.

Common triggers include:
    •    Fear: Loud noises, strangers, unfamiliar situations
    •    Pain: Even the sweetest dog may react if they’re injured or sick
    •    Possession guarding: Food, toys, or a favorite resting spot
    •    Being startled: Waking a sleeping dog or sneaking up on one
    •    Overstimulation: Too much rough play or petting
    •    Maternal instincts: Protecting puppies

Understanding these triggers can help us avoid putting dogs in uncomfortable situations—and avoid bites before they happen.

Let’s work together to keep both pets and people safe.

Day 5 of Dog Bite Prevention Week: Let’s talk about The Dunbar Dog Bite Scale!šŸ¶šŸ“ˆ

The Dunbar Dog Bite Scale is a systematic tool for assessing the severity of dog bites by examining bite marks and other injuries. It’s used by professionals like dog trainers, veterinarians, and lawyers to understand the nature of dog aggression and determine the appropriate level of medical care or legal action. The scale categorizes bites into six levels, with each level indicating a higher degree of bite severity.Ā

Here’s a breakdown of the six levels:

Level 1:ā™„ļø
Aggressive behavior but no skin contact. The dog may be snapping or air biting, but there’s no actual teeth-to-skin contact.Ā

Level 2:ā™„ļøā™„ļø
Teeth make contact with the skin, but there’s no puncture wound. This may involve slight nicks or bruising.Ā

Level 3:ā™„ļøā™„ļøā™„ļø
One to four punctures from a single bite, but no puncture deeper than half the length of the dog’s canine teeth.Ā

Level 4:ā™„ļøā™„ļøā™„ļøā™„ļø
One to four punctures from a single bite, with at least one puncture deeper than half the length of the dog’s canine teeth. Bruising or lacerations in both directions (from the dog shaking its head) may also be present.Ā

Level 5:ā™„ļøā™„ļøā™„ļøā™„ļøā™„ļø
Multiple-bite incidents with at least two Level 4 bites or multiple-attack incidents with at least one Level 4 bite in each.Ā

Level 6:ā™„ļøā™„ļøā™„ļøā™„ļøā™„ļøā™„ļø
Bites resulting in the death of the victim.Ā

Day 3 of Dog Bite Prevention Week: Let’s Talk Kids & Canines! šŸ‘§šŸ¾
Did you know kids are the most common dog bite victims-and most bites happen during everyday interactions?
That’s why teaching kids to respect dogs’ space and signals is one of the best ways to prevent bites.
āœ… Simple rules to teach:
• Always ask before petting
• No hugs or climbing on dogs
• Don’t disturb dogs while sleeping or eating
• Be calm and gentle
šŸŽØ Learning can be fun-use drawings, stories, or games to build safe habits!
Share this with other parents, pet owners, or teachers. A little education goes a long way in keeping everyone safe and happy. ā¤ļøšŸ¾

**It’s Dog Bite Prevention Week!**Ā Ā
Today’s tip: ā€œHow to safely interact with dogsā€

When meeting a new dog:Ā Ā
āœ”ļø Ask the owner for permission firstĀ Ā
āœ”ļø Stay calm and move slowlyĀ Ā
āœ”ļø Let the dog approach youĀ Ā
āŒ Don’t run—dogs may chaseĀ Ā
āŒ Avoid direct eye contactĀ Ā
ā— Watch their body language: yawning, stiff posture, lip licking, or a tucked tail can be signs they’re uncomfortableĀ Ā

Respect their space and speak their language—it can prevent bites and build trust!Ā Ā
