We have more fall honey bottled!
Summer honey and fall honey are available. (See the color difference in the second picture).
The first thing you notice about fall honey is the darker color and he second is the taste....it's a little more savory than the summer honey. I use it in gingerbread cookies instead of molasses (a happy accident when I ran out of molasses). The color of the honey depends upon the kinds of flowers in bloom when bees are collecting nectar and pollen.

Check out the capped honey (near the top left of the frame), the uncapped nectar (near the top right of the frame) AND the uncapped pollen (to the left of the frame below the bees) I was amazed by the many colors of pollen!

We were out harvesting honey this weekend. I love how in this frame you can see 2 different colors of honey! The color depends upon the type of nectar the bees are collecting. The second picture is a close up of the frame, bees are so interesting to watch!

We spotted the queen! Sometimes with a lot of bees in the hive it is hard to find the queen, especially when every bee is moving around! (She's right in the middle of the cluster of bees, the dark spot on her back isn't fuzzy like the others)

There is not much nectar for the bees to collect right now. One of our hives was bored and produced this beautiful piece of honeycomb inside the hive in a place where we didn't want it. Newly produced beeswax is lightly colored, after the honeycomb is used for collecting pollen and nectar it gets darker in color.

Ever wonder what honey bees do when it's really hot?! They hang out outside, preferably in the shade. (Check out the shade under the hive!)

While we were harvesting honey the bees circled around broken cells to recover the honey.

The bees have been collecting nectar and making it into honey! (The uncapped cells contain nectar not quite the right consistency to be honey, and when it's ready they put a cap on it (kind of like a lid for storage).

Inside the hive on the inner cover there was a bee bridge! Kind of reminds me of an acrobat show!

I love it when our beach plum bush blooms, it's beautiful! The bees also love it, look at that pollen!

The bees have been out collecting pollen and nectar! Look at the pollen baskets filled up on this honey bee! It's interesting to watch them coming back with full pollen baskets, some have bright yellow pollen and some have orange pollen.

While inspecting hives today a drop of nectar spilled onto the top of a frame, not 2 seconds later the bees were trying to get it back into the right place!
