Our hearts are heavy this morning as we say goodbye to yet another beautiful soul, gone way too soon. Norman was only eight years old when he passed last week, presumably from bone cancer. Not only was he one of the most gorgeous dogs we’ve ever seen, he had the heart to match. He was sweet and loving with everyone, dogs and staff alike. He was full of life and enjoyed being outside any time he could. If it was warm and he wasn’t near us, we knew we’d find him in the pools. It’s always hard to hear our friends have passed, but this one hits a little different. This was such a gentle, happy, pure soul that lived every bit of life to the fullest. It was beautiful to see and experience in the six, short years we knew him. Our condolences to his family and four-legged little brother Wall-E, who has only know a life with Norman.

Lulu left this world way too soon. She was only six years old but passed a few days ago, apparently due to heart failure. She was saved years ago from the dog meat trade in Asia by two truly amazing humans and long-time Dog Lodge customers. Not only did she get a chance at a better life, considering what her fate would have been, but this girl hit the jackpot when she was rescued. She was such a sweet, loving soul who lived a life of travel, hiking and endless love once rescued. Her people literally went to the ends of the earth for her. We are heartbroken for her family who has to live without her now. Our hearts are full though, from knowing her loving spirit and beautiful story of hope and compassion.

They never thought he’d play after the unimaginable trauma he suffered, but now, he’s loving life! Gabriel, the smaller dog in this video, was the only survivor of several puppies that were thrown off a cliff. Before being found and put into rescue, he was attacked by birds and lost his eyes. Despite his traumatic past, Gabriel is happy, healthy and thriving… and playing!

We had tears in our eyes last night as Loki finally got to go home after six months at The Dog Lodge. His owner dropped him off March 2nd to take a one month trip to India as he does every year. He extended his date a few weeks due to some Visa issues. The day before he was to fly home to get Loki, travel from India was halted due to the Covid outbreak there. Month after month Loki's owner tried everything to get back, including lawyers...to no avail. Finally, half a year later, he found an elaborate way to get back and get his dog. This is their reunion last night. You can tell the moment it clicks in Loki's head. We were all crying and so happy this boy finally gets to go home with his family.
