Every dog in this group is usually either 1) super reactive around all other dogs (barking, lunging, growling) or 2) had little to no socialization with other dogs so they usually immediately shut down, are petrified and want to leave.

Farm Update: Bean is in labor! 🐐

When we got our 4 girls back in November we were told it was a possibility one (or all) might be pregnant. As we approach the end of their 150 day gestation period it’s clear Bean, Cream, AND Kona are pregnant!

And as of this morning, Bean is in the first stage of labor. You can tell by how vocal she is, and her protruding hips indicating that baby (or babies?) has dropped into the birth canal. We should have cuteness overload in 12-24 hours 😍 Stay tuned and wish this mama good luck! ❤️

Kona, Bean and her 2 babies (Chai & Latte?? Still feeling it out) joined our family Monday and they’re settling in nicely! We adopted them from the same place we got Boo 🐷 from so he’s really jazzed to have roommates he knows and he’s been really happy since they arrived 🥰
These ladies are so so sweet and are truly a joy to have around so far! So friendly and funny, we love them ♥️ The Under Dog Acres Farm Family is growing!!

Our Second Reactive Dog Class - in the books! ✅
Here are our amazing clients walking all in harmony!
- no prong collars
- no shock colors
- no yelling or reprimanding
Every single one of these dogs is usually super reactive and uncomfortable around dogs on leash and around dogs they don’t trust. There was some barking in the beginning, as to be expected, but after a few minutes of pair walks, positive counter conditioning, a lot of cheese and tons of happy praise - every single dog was completely and utterly comfortable walking closely to all the others.
Our most fearful pup, Zeus, voluntarily wedged himself in between two friends and walked in unison with them for a few minutes, with a happy smile. Mom was shocked, very nervous and almost pulled him back but we went through all the things we can do for our dogs to encourage them in times of bravery, keeping them safe, and immediately not pull them back and inducing anxiety! It was a great learning moment!!
So so overly proud of this group and so excited for the next class tomorrow. As a Behavioral Consultant, my favorite part is always watching the dogs succeed but even more so, watching the parents face in pure shock when the dog can do so well so quickly with the correct, fear free methods!

The truth is, we believe most people are well intentioned and are operting with the limited knowledge and resources they have. Lord knows a google search will give you infinite "solutions" to silence "annoying barking" from a dog whistle to rehoming your dog.. Dog whistles emit a high frequency sound that is painful to a dog's highly sensitive ears, it becomes especially cruel when the tool is misused by kids in the home who see their parents using it. What kid doesnt love whistles?!

Behavioral Science tells us barking is almost always a symptom, not the actual issue. To treat the symptom and not the cause does nothing for your dog's well being or your human/animal bond. Even if the barking has stopped, when their pot boils over the water has to go somewhere.. Treat the cause NOT the symptom. This is why Positive Reinforcement is the only true solutiuon.
We dedicated an acre of our property to be a private park for reactive dogs or dogs who just prefer to have their own space!
