On Public Land: $1.35 - courtesy of the American Taxpayer‼️
For thr latter wild horses are being removed which incurs cost for
- helicopter
- cowboys and their horses
- traps; panels & fencing; vet care; feed ; hoof care; transport; and the list goes on!

I am absolutely ecstatic to report that Caramel, our incredibly sweet senior Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) alumni has found himself a Sweet Life-retirement: Caramel got adopted today and will not only have a twin brother but also a super nice waterfront yard in Maryland 🤩😍🥰
Thank you Andrea Palmer for opening your hearts and home and taking in not just one senior but now also our sweet sweet Caramel boy ♥️♥️♥️

And baby makes three
If I had to make a list of random things that make me happy for no reason (which now that I mentioned it sounds like a great weekend activity), gay zoo birds would be really far up there. Recently, two male flamingos named Arthur and Curtis successfully hatched an egg together at the Paignton Zoo in southwest England. The zoo has had several all-male pairings during past breeding seasons, so the same-sex couple is not exactly unexpected. But the fact that they took a shine to a likely-abandoned egg and then cared for it until it hatched is unusual. Now, they’re doting papas. “The parents are obviously doing a great job,” said the zoo’s curator of birds.

Little Flip (right) had his neuro consult today at Veterinary Hospital in Ithaca where they take cute pics of their clients 🤩 (if you remember Theo the dog last fall who had ataxia/wobbliness, he got to go there for a neuro consult and had his picture taken with pumpkins as it was pumpkin / Halloween season). Because Flip is still so tiny and such a baby I took his brother Spot along. And yes, they are from the same litter! Turns out Flip is still way too small for most testing but they managed to draw (literally) 2 drops of blood for genetic testing as well as one for a blood smear test, so we’ll have to wait for those results. As long as his wobbling doesn’t get worse he’s going to be fine, it just needs some adjustments since his balance is not the best and he keeps falling off the shelves in the kitten crate, so I guess I’ll have to modify the crate to put it on the side or I’ll use one of the xxl dog crates again. Flip believes he’s a Flying Squirrel and he’ll literally leap out of the crate when I open the door to feed them 😆 But because of his handicap he won’t land on his feet but will just plop down like a stone 😱

Never a dull moment 😂
In the morning I went to Southside Vet with Chinook. Then home, pack up all (well, except for little old man Scrappy who got to rule the house by himself) to take Gracie to Cornell for her continuing dental issues.
The wait at Cornell took a little longer and as a storm approached I thought I better get the dogs into the building since Lola and Chinook can be a little skittish with thunder. Well, the storm was much faster than me and while I was still clipping on leashes the downpour started and before I got Tony into the back of the car (he’s 13 and has arthritis) we were soaked 😅 Luckily the hatch will close via remote control so at least I didn’t have to get even more wet to close it 😆 and then I was able to restart the engine via remote control to get the a/c going 🤩 what were people doing before all these little fancy electronic tools ⁉️
I love my car ♥️😁

One of the hardest part about rescue is when people contact me and say they want to adopt this cat or that dog and say that these are the perfect pets for them, make appointments, even do a Meet’n’Greet that goes really well - and then either ghost us completely or stand us up because they are having their barn painted right now.
Anyone who’s ever seen a foster kid in the movies being stood up by possible adopters knows what I’m talking about.
These fur babies are my kids and of course they have a great life here, but they too want their own family. So please, people, before getting our hopes up think long and hard about if you’re really willing and ready to commit. Telling me “… is the perfect dog for me but I’m renovating my house and don’t want to expose him to the dust and noise” is not a good enough explanation when this dog actually came from a war torn place and has certainly gone through worse than a home remodel.

Pauli is the sweetest and coolest tabby who I believe might break records in size; his paws have now at 2 years of age gotten so big that I’m afraid he’ll grow into a literal miniature tiger 😁 and it’s all my fault I guess from when I initially named him tiger when he was a baby 😅
Chinook the Shepsky is gorgeous, incredibly loving and cuddly but also at only 19 months old high energy who needs proper daily outings.

Today I came across this wonderful Hollistic Vet on YouTube. I’ve been working with homeopathy on all of my animals whenever possible and have been feeding a raw food diet for 12 years, and have seen the health improvements first hand in my own dogs.

Anyway. This video is on parasites and very informative.
The problem with commercial / chemical dewormers is that the parasites have gotten immune to them and part of the reason is the overuse of dewormers in the US. I don’t blame vets for telling you to use them regularly (too much) as most are just erring on the conservative side to keep your pet safe while others do it for their own profit. Either way, this is a great deep dive into natural anti-parasitics.

I’ll start posting some of her videos that are relevant for the broader public, the next one will be a super interesting one on Heartworm treatment / prevention.

Spot is a little boy who we rescued just in time before it was too late. Two of his brothers weren’t as lucky.

Spot and Flip are growing! Spot had quickly recovered and has been a typical kitten, Flip is the runt, much smaller and calmer, his face still looks a little bit like an alien but he is so adorable 🥰 And they are fuzzy 😍 I had hoped spot would be ready for neutering at the end of the month so he could be adopted but I think we’ll have to wait another month as both need to grow into the minimum weight limit.
